Email search at iCloud.com does not work

No matter what I enter into the search field, iCloud Mail always returns "0 matching results" -- Is this a known issue that others are experiencing?

This is happening to me when I use web mail at iCloud.com. I am not sure if this occurs when using a desktop email client.

Thank you.

Yassss! I too have been on Apple's cloud services since before MobileMe and have always had this problem searching in iCloud mail on the web to this very day, June 3 2017. Tried your suggestion of typing something into the search field and then just waiting. No pressing return/enter and no clicking on anything and THAT worked! If you press return/enter or click on the magnifying glass it will break it, but if you just let it automatically start the search, it miraculously works!

Anyone get this figured out? For those of you who wrote about this 2 months ago, did it start working eventually?

Glad to see I am not the only one. My problem is very similar, however I sometimes get 1-3 results returned for a search that should be getting 30+ results returned. Often I get 0 results returned. I recently imported my email history into icloud from a previous provider, and at first assumed those 10,000+ emails needed to be "indexed" or something before the search would pick them up properly. However, it seems to me the search results I get are not based on native icloud/imported email status, and either way I would assume 24 hours would be sufficient to "index" if that was needed.

Having 14,000 emails with no way to reliably search them is essentially useless!

Seriously. How long is this going to take to be fixed?! I have been patiently waiting for months and months and this will force me to leave the service. Webmail search is essential.

Apple, use your billions in the bank to hire one more software developer and get this fixed.

I cannot recommend iCloud to anyone in its current state. It is disgraceful.

I am just shocked more people aren't complaining about this - this seems to be the only thread I can find and such a serious defect. I am close to jumping ship to Gmail too, but the cost of changing my email address (again) is so high...

ncalliari - did you (or anyone else on this thread) import your email from another provider? Since the original post didn't describe my exact problem, I started a new thread here a few weeks ago with more detail: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3656313?start=0&tstart=0 Let me know if your problem is similar.

I have the exact same problem and to say that I am infuriated by this would be the biggest understatemnet ever. For Apple to not even get the most basic of features right is a complete joke and it makes me so angry. I have recently upgraded to Lion on all my devices but I am stuck on Snow Leopard at work and I can't update it and as a result I can't use Mail as my email client anymore which is why I am so dependent on iCloud's mail.

FRUSTRATED!!!

I too have found that the search function in iCloud webmail is seriously lacking. If fact it is not just that. The interface in general is very slow to load up. I would also like the ability to go back to viewing email items the way they used to be able to. In the OSX mail client you can go back to the old view, why not in web.

I have still been limping along just praying Apple will fix iCloud search. What usually happens now for me is I attempt a search, iCloud says "Loading..." for a period of about 2 minutes, and then eventually returns a "Cannot load Inbox. Messages cannot be displayed at this time" error message. This happens on any search term for any search field. Strangely, my search worked a couple of times a week or two ago and I thought it was fixed, but not since.

What is are the common potential causes among people in this thread?? Peter / PhillipD - did you do any email migration from another service before this started happening, or were you already on MobileMe/iCloud email only? Do you get "0 matching results" when you search like the original post or the "Cannot load Inbox" error that I get?

I have been using apple's email since it was called iTools/.Mac/MobilMe/iCloud. The problem I have is any kind of search is pointless and only causes frustration. As soon as I type something I see the spinning cog and this goes on forever. When this has finished usually after 10-15 minutes, it comes up with some kind of error. I then can't load my email back without closing the browser and restarting it. It works once in a million but I try and not use it due to the pain it causes.

I feel Apple are aware of this issue but have an iCloud update planned for next month at WWDC and are holding off fixing this as it's going to be replaced anyhow with an upgrade.
