Choral effect, like "You can't always get what you want"?

(yes, I realize the irony in my song sample)

I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to produce rich, deep background vocals, like the Rolling Stones "You Can't Always Get What You Want," without a choir, or in fact *any* singers.

Perhaps playing the notes on a keyboard and having them sound like a church choir singing "ah, ah, ah, ah" in rich, echoing splendor?

Yep. Get the "magic" plug in. It does whatever you want by pushing a single button. Everyoe should have that plug-in because why should anyone have to actually do work to make music?

Seriously though, if you figure out how to get realistic sounds of people singing without actually using singers, let me know.

In the meantime, you can always just multitrack yourself singing with different voices and build up a choir that way. Which is what I'd recommend. Sing with different timbe each time. And perform so that you attain the echoing splendor you desire.

Or, if you prefer the hard way, you can try the Anteres plug-ins and manipulate one track multiple times to sound like it's from different voices...but I've never been able to get it to sound acurate or realistic. It worked for backups, but nothing that was in the forefront of a mix.

That's funny, the "magic" plug in. I'm a programmer at work, and when people describe that they want a program to "just . . ." I often want to reply, "oh, I'll just use my magic algorithm."

I like (and will try) your ideas. But I actually didn't think I was asking something all that magical. I already have some pretty amazing sounds that can come out of my keyboard just with out-of-the-box Logic pro. Some of them nearly sound like human choral vocals. I was just thinking/hoping that maybe somebody had taken it that extra step, to make it sound really like a choir - no lyrics - just "ah, ah, ah" stuff.

Thanks for the tip fuzzynormal - I'll give it a whirl.

No doubt you can use voice samples of a choir doing Ahh's and Oooo's. Garageband even has these. However, you can't get a true human element without, well, using humans.

With a choir, you need a lot of 'em...even if it's just you doing 25 different voices.

The Antares plugs are wonderfully weird, so adding that to your multiple tracks might get you where you want to go with the sound.
