Wifi Sync not working -- wants me to restore from prev backup

iTunes recognizes my iPhone 4. But something strange is happening. On the phone itself, it indicates that it's synced thru wifi nightly. But, 1. when I click on iPhone in source list, it shows screen for "Set up your iPhone" and wants to set up from a backup that is weeks old and 2. it's not syncing playlists that I've indicated to sync in iTunes.

FWIW, the reason my backup on my MacBook Air is so old is I've been backing up through iCloud.

Any suggestions?

Still having this problem. Anyone else experiencing this? I don't want to restore from the backup on my MBA because it's from October.

I am having same problem as of last night. Wifi Sync had previously worked, but when I tried to do it last night, it said I needed to restore or set up as new iPhone. Anyone know why that is? Can I fix it or am I just stuck restoring it and hoping it doesnt happen again?
