Q: Apple Software Update Fails to Perform Update
A few months ago when the iMac lineup was refreshed, I splurged and bought a top-of-the-line 27". I'm very excited about my purchase, but I've been having one annoying problem since I first got Windows 7 64-bit set up. Whenever I use Apple Software Update to attempt to install the Boot Camp updates (i believe 3.2 and 3.3 are the ones I've missed), ASU downloads the update, gets a few seconds into updating, then "finishes," telling me I need to restart to allow the update to finish. I do so, because I know some files can't be updated while I'm using the machine. However, once the machine reboots and I run ASW again to ensure that the update was installed, the same update I just applied is sitting there looking at me with a trollface (maybe that last part is just in my head).
I first noticed this problem when a small bootcamp update came out fixing some localization problems with foreign keyboards. I didn't sweat it too much because the update didnt really effect me (I even took it to the Genius Bar and they said not to worry about it unless a more major update was released). However, another update has been released since then that's much larger, and I'd like to get everything as up to date as possible to prevent some overheating problems that have happened, but that's a bit of a different question.
As far as the mac side goes, I'm running 10.6.8 and wont be upgrading to Lion til Christmas/mid-January.
Short question - How do I get ASU to work properly?
P.S. - I tried running it regularly and as an admin. Both yielded the above results.
