iMessage Phone Number Error

I am having trouble trying to get iMessage working. iMessage works via email, but with the phone number, it no longer works. I would see "Veryfying" then a few minutes later it says error. I've tried restoring, resetting, rebooting with no luck. I have restored from backup, and also started from scratch, I can't seem to get my phone number to register with apple servers. Should I send my iPhone in?

PS The problem occurs with FaceTime too.

I can use iMessage, but it shows up as my email. I recieve it only with my email, not my phone number. For example: If I iMessage someone, it would show up as xxxxxxx@aol.com not +1 (519) XXX XXXX (my phone number). If someone wants to iMessage me, they would have to iMessafe xxxxxxxx@aol.com, and only be able to TEXT my phone number. So I need help verifying my phone number with iMessage. And I went out and got another micro sim card, but no luck. 😟

This because your device is has not recognized the new number on your old sim card. To force your device to retrieve the new number from the sim card just follow the steps mentioned:


navigate to Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off and then back on. Wait for 5 minutes and the phone number in the 'My number' field will be updated with the correct number. This will resolve your issue with iMessage not recognising your new number

Nope. Doesn't work for me.


I lost my 4S, so I bought a new one. When I use my old back-up, under receive at, I only see my emaill address and it's trying to verify my old phone number and it's greyed out. It'll show error later on.


If I do a restore and set it as a new phone, under receive at, my number isn't showing at all.


Anyone knows how or why? I have changed number & SIM card twice and it's still the same problem.

Sorry to hear about that strange issue... Have you tried 'reset network settings' ? I would start there, then try 'reset all settings' and then finally the most aggressive 'erase all content and settings'


For what it's worth to everyone else, the above suggestion to turn off iMessage and then turn it back on appears to have worked for me. Apple care didn't even think to have me try that and instead had me do all the various reset options.

@mac45456: Yes. I did try reset networt, reset all setting and finally erase all content and settings. It's still the same problem.


@DrMean: Tried your method. Logged out of apple ID and turned iMessage off/on. It showed "waiting for activacion" which last forever... and eventually failed to verify.


I don't think there is a problem with the network because everything works fine, except for the iMessage. I use the same provider on my lost iPhone and it worked flawlesly. All my friends are on the same network as well.


There is no apple store in my country, so I can only ask online forums for help 😟
