What possible reason would Apple have for disabling the battery percentage on the iPod touch? It's the most basic feature and useful. Plus it's available on the iPhone 4(S), so it's not an iOS 5 issue.

Apple has not said why the iPod does not have % battery in the upper right. It is against the terms of this forum to discuss why apple does or does not do things.

Unless you jailbreak the device. It won't show a battery percentage. Even with iOS 5. You can jailbreak the device but if failed I didn't recommend this...
There are two ways to get a battery percentage:
Install an app like Battery Magic Elite, or you can turn on Voice Over and then tap the battery icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
