tv shows not full screen

TV shows in hd are not full screen on the tv. is there a way to fix this from teh apple tv device?

Check your TV aspect ratio settings - set it to 16:9 or Auto.

If it was a movie then I'd say many might be 'wider' than widescreen and that would be normal - older SD TV Shows in 4:3 should have black bars either side, recent 16:9 TV Shows should fill the screen. AppleTV itself has no control over aspect ratio so it's likely the TV Setting.

Fixed it, had it set to auto but it was showing only in a smaller section of the tv, equivalent to black bars on all sides not just left and right. So I went to the settings then changed it to another setting when the selection said do you want to keep this setting i said no. Now it is in hd 720p and showing full screen.
