Q: Apogee Duet 2 MUTE & UNMUTE Problem

Hi:

I just bought a new Apogee Duet 2 and I love everything about it, especially the sound and the display. One thing is absolutely driving me insane is that my Duet 2 keeps switching between MUTE & UNMUTE randomly. I have looked into preferences in Maestro, have searched online extensively but I haven't found any posting where anyone seems to be experiencing the same problem.

This is very very annoying when I'm in a session and trying to record and all of a sudden the sound output will go off....and then after a minute or so it will unmute and come on itself (until and unless I press one of the assignable buttons on the Duet 2 to unmute). This is just absolutely absurd!!!

Please help! I would greatly appreciate.

I have a Duet 2, Ableton Live Suite 8.2.5, Macbook Pro with LION, EMU Xboard.

Thank you

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

I have the exact same problem.  Any word on this?  It happens regardless of whether any applications are open.

    Hi Guys,

i've got same problem. I configured the right button assignment to mute all outputs, so randomly during music listening or playing my instrument the speaker and headphone goes mute without pressing the oled panel button. So i chat with a representavite of Apogee and he said that maybe there is hw problem on device, but i c'ant believe in that.yesterday i sent also and email to describe my problem and now i'm waiting for a response. Hope that someone can solve this issue.

    Hello,

Unfortunately it sounds as though this Duet 2 is defective in some manner. An exchange should be made with the retailer it was recently purchased from.

This problem still exists. But, there is a workaround, for me at least. The problem lies in the button, it selfactivates. But - you can reassign the buttons to do Nothing, problem solved.

Just start your Apogee Maestro 2. Under "Devices" you'll find the different assignments. Choose "None" or any other command that does not affect you. Now it can self activate as much as it wants.

I only had problems with one of the buttons. And having one of the two working is more than enough for me. I've honestly not even used it so far - I mute with the volume scroll.

Hope this solution works for you as well.

Does this issue still happen to you Phagun Oswal?

or did JojjeZ's answer solve your problem?

I had this happen to me lastnight while in the middle of the first song i play when Djing. I use ableton live 9 suite (just upgraded recently so i don't know if it is ableton or the apogee itself). played through my first track and the sound cut out. so embarrassing. it happened 3 times. but i did notice that the mute kept going on.

I've disable the mute button thing like mentioned and ive now updated the apogree firmware/drivers so I'm hoping this solves the issue but does your issue still happen after disabling the mute button??

    let me know!!

    thanks so much,

    krystle

I have the same issue on a Duet 1, on Mavericks.

When I listed to stuff with my headphones on, it randomly unmutes the speakers and I don't know that I am blasting music through the house in the middle of the night.

My solution is turn my speakers off. Not a good solution.

    Hi mattfromwaimauku & all,

I had this problem until I frustratedly left my Duet in the cellar for one Year, working with a Quad-Capture (Roland).

Few days before today re-checked the Duet II and first of all let the firmware updater do it`s work. Mine had 1.31, the software updated it to 1.38. After that I deinstalled all other drivers, repaired permissions and put the up-to-date drivers from apogee on my system.

Result after three days. The device runs without randlomly muting and without any hotkey-workaround.

My advice: check the latest fw-installer from the apogee-webspace and post future behaviour of your device here. May it help others.

    good luck, fellows!

    Chris
