The battery on my MacBook Pro (mid 2009) only lasts for about 1.5 hours. I have AppleCare protection, will Apple replace my battery?

Apple only warranties the battery for the 1st year you own your mac. After that, they can replace it for free at their discretion. You can go into an Apple store and ask, but I wouldn't count on it.

I bought mine around the same time and am having the same problem. Did you get a solution in the end??

Note that regardless of cycles, Lithium batteries have a finite life span. The are decaying constantly from internal oxidation, regardless of use, number of cycles, and so forth. A four year old battery is not going to hold anywhere near a full charge, no matter how much it has been used or how well it has been cared for.

Even with the very best care and treatment, about 5 years is the maximum you can expect a Lithium cell to keep a useable charge capacity. They are literally a consumable item, and will always need to be replaced at some point.

Thanks Michael. It was going so well before the 3 month store, the storing probably damaged it some way...It was empty of juice when I switched it back on...

Consumable, yes, I will have to soak it up and make the purchase.

Long periods of idle are NOT good for Lithium cells. They really need to have current flowing on a regular basis, at least a partial discharge and/or partial charge every few (3-5) days if they really are going to last the longest possible useful lifetime.

And, running a Lithium cell completely down is also pretty much a death sentence for a battery. Smart electronics always shut the device down BEFORE the battery is completely discharged, to ensure there is always enough residual charge so the battery is not damaged. But, a low battery continues to drain even sitting on a shelf (internal oxidation again), so it could run completely down. Should that happen, it will almost never take a good charge again.

I visited the Apple store, my phone was checked and i was told that there was an app open in the background that was draining the battery

My phone was restored to the factory settings and only my contacts was restored.

Since then baterry is back to normal.

I started installing 1 app at a time.

Your battery is probably draining because you have your mail set to push.

Go to settings>mail contacts calendars> Fetch new data -PUSH_>> turn push OFF and set it to manually or hourly.

Having push on means that your phone is constantly updating your mail, which will drain your battery like crazy!

The same thing is happening with my iPhone 5, since I downloaded IOS 6.1.4, I mean, battery began to spend 5% every minute, even in standby. I was oriented by the Apple costumer service to back up and restore to factory standard version. I did as instructed, but then I downloaded my apps again. The battery kept falling again. I was instructed to take my phone to the technical assistance as it should be hardware problem. By myself I restored again and did not downloaded apps. The battery is back to normal, maybe some application is in conflict with the new version of IOS . In my opinion Apple should analyze this problem or go back to previous version.

Hramiro.....I'm having the same problem. Battery was fine before the update....now I have to travel with my battery charger to make it thru the day.

I would like to see easy port for exchanging your batteries that only last 1 year with my use. I'm not blaming Apple's specific battery, all batteries eventually. BUT ON ANY OTHER DEVICE, I can pop off a cover and change out a battery in 1 minute. But Apple require professionals, time and extra money? Most people would rather buy a new one than to go through the hassle. You call that "Being Green". Of course, they really don't care. IT JUST MEANS MORE SALES FOR APPLE. They set the bar on technology, the cutting edge and yet deliver products that the customer can't even quickly nor easily change out a battery.

n desperation after trying all other "solutions" for iOS 7.0 battery problems and despite warnings that I should never do it, I let my IPhone 5 run completly out of juice.

I then recharged it overnight. I restored LTE and most of the apps on Backgrounf App Refresh.

After using it for the last 8hours the battery shows 90%.

If the battery level indicator is right this may have done the trick for me.

I'm new to all this iPhone stuff - what is LTE?
