Imovie 11 does not import full HD off Sony SR12

I have a Sony AVCHD SR12 shooting footage at the highest setting 1920x1080. Imovie 11 import options are 960x540 or "full". Despite importing at "full" all the clips are still 960x540, as verified by looking at the imported clips in the finder/quicktime.

This is on a MBP 2.8 core 2 duo on OS10.6.8.

I simply do not see any other settings in Imovie to play with....will be getting new MBP in a few days will be interesting to see if this problem disappears with it because I can't beleive there wouldn't already be threads on this if it were a common issue.

Yes, you should be able to import 1080i video. The correct setting on import is "FULL".

The other thing to check would be to look in iMovie/Preferences under the Video Tab and check your default setting. It should also be FULL.

See this Tutorial. It is for iMovie 09, but iMovie 11 should be very similar.

Unforuntately this has been looked at, imovie restarted, the 15'' computer restarted with no change.

I just received a new 17'' MBP. Backed up the 15'' via time machine, and migrated that time machine backup to the new 17''.

Imovie is now importing footage at full 108i res again...even old footage shot months ago still on the camera drive.

If anyone else has this prob and finds this thread I think the next move on the 15'' would have to be reinstalling the system os???!!
