Why is airdrop is not appearing in the finder >Preferences>Sidebar Window?
Airdrop is not appearing in the finder window. When I went to Finder>Preferences>Sidebar it wasn't listed. I am running Lion.

What model is your Macbook? Scroll down to see which models are supported by Airdrop:
I am running late 2008, but everything (memory, etc) has been updated with new stuff capable of running lion.
Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with any of that - it has to do with the built in WiFi card. And, it would only be helpful to you if you have another Mac with Airdrop nearby.
Airdrop will only show if both Macs on your network are running Lion.
That is not quite true - I had two machines and Airdrop was only supported on one of them: it showed on it (of course, it did not work because there was no second machine being able to work with it, but it did show on one machine).
"To use AirDrop in the Finder, simply choose AirDrop from the Go menu"
I have two other macs on the same network running airdrop. This is the third mac, the wi-fi cards are drawing on the same network (my home network). So I am not understanding why the third mac is not showing airdrop.
Airdrop creates its' own ad hoc network. It is the manufacturer and/or firmware version of the installed Airport card - it is either supported or it is not; your network has nothing to do with it. There is a workaround floating around here that supposedly works - I don't like using haxies and won't recommend them, but you can do a search on the forums here.
Bobowa,
Thanks for the help....is there some direction you could give me on using the haxies you mentioned...like where to find it? BTW, I just moved from Seattle less than 3 years ago and totally miss the great NW!

There is a link to it in this thread:

Since this is a brand new feature, there isn't a lot of information on it except what Apple has published.
P.S. Sorry you had to move.......
