Second hand unlocked jailbroken Iphone not activated.

Help!!! I have just brought a second hand 3gs for my wife as a birthday! The seller listed it as unlocked and jailbroken! I know nothing about this sort of thing, but I was told the original carrier was T mobile. This is the same as my wife's network so I thought it should be ok. Reading through some blogs I found out that if you connect to I tunes this would remove the phones unlock ability. BUT after doing this now the phone seems to have reset and the sentence " your iphone could not be activated because the server is unavailable" it allows you to try again but it just repeats the same message again. It just a nightmare!!!! At least the phone turned on before she connected it to itunedsand allowed you to connect to the internet and browse!!! Please can anyone help!!

hints:

obvious :

reboot phone and retry

reboot your computer running the iTunes an retry

less obvious :

if you are using a computer 'used' to JB activity, may happen you have forgotten something

somewhere (ie host files ..)

try with a clean computer , hopefully a Mac .

Hi. When you say reboot phone do you mean press sleep and home key until the apple logo appears as i have just tried that and it is still the same. Just tried rebooting laptop and connecting iphone. The message just came up the there was no sim card detected!!!

What do you mean about JB activity??? Sorry but I dont understand!!

What I find difficult to grasp is why the phone does not come up with all the apps and contents when you first turn it on!!! It did yesterday before we connected to itunes! Now its just a grey screen. Even without the sim card shouldnt it still do that??

I mean 'JailBreaking' activities.. it may happen that in some of this operations you made changes to your laptop in order to by-pass apple servers ( :-( ) and this may match you simphoms ("..because the server is unavailable") .

If not shure try the operation from a trusted clean laptop. hopefully a Mac (as said).

jailbreaking is not supported by apple/itunes and this is why you are having problems. jailbreaking is not even allowed to be discussed on this forum. sorry to say, but the best advice i can give you is return the phone for a refund.
