Can't find my rented movie on Apple TV?

Hi,

I just started using Apple TV. I rented a movie, received the email confirmation, and now can't find it to view it. I've read on a site that, it should appear at the top of the main menu on Apple TV - Movies, it's not there, just a selection of movies to rent.

Also said to go to Settings on the Apple TV, selet iTunes and I can see it there. I don't have iTunes under Settings....help.

AppleTV 2

If you rented on AppleTV2 it shoudl appear top left of screen, if you rented in iTunes you should find it under Computers > iTunes library name > Rentals

Thanks for the help.

It may be on AppleTV 1 only.

Normally when you rent on AppleTV2 after making the rental the movie icon goes into the row of icons on top left of screen and it usually tells you when it's ready to play.

Rentals normally work well, not sure why yours didn't - hope you get it fixed/refunded.

Some progress anyway!

The download time most likely reflects a slowish internet connection.

YouTube content is often compressed to high heaven and doesn't need much bandwidth.

AppleTV HD rentals are large and fixed size - around 3-4GB per movie. SD are around 1-1.5GB.

AppleTv basically starts downloading a movie, and calculates how long it will take for enough to download to allow you to watch the film uninterrupted whilst the remainder downloads as you watch. You need 6 Mbps or so for near instant HD downloads. I'd guess you're getting 2-3 Mbps. On my slow 4Mbps connection it takes 40 mins or so for HD film to start. If you change the Settings in AppleTV for the store you can make it only offer SD films which will start much more quickly for you.

Beware of using AppleTV for othet tasks while a movie is downloading as this can wipe the downloaded portion forcing it to restart the download from scratch.

This is a bug with the iOS7 update.

1. Log out of your iTunes account on your Apple TV

2. Log out of your iCloud account on your Apple TV

3. Reset your Apple TV from the main settings menu.

On restart

4. Log into your iTunes account on your Apple TV

5. Log into your iCloud account on your Apple TV

6. Go back to the the main Apple TV menu and you should see your rental on the top Left of the screen.

Hopefully they will get this fixed soon. It is a real PIA in its current state.
