Q: Iphone 4s - 3G connection disappears after using wi-fi

Hi!

I have an odd problem with my Iphone 4s. After using a wi-fi connection at home and going out I've noticed that the phone doesn't switch automatically to 3g connection. Instead it states that there's no internet connection available at all. But if I'm restarting the phone (shut down, new start) then I get a 3g connection back immediately. This looks really annoying. Any ideas how to solve it?

Thanks!

Ok, it's cool that it works for you.

I got a replacement iPhone 4S due to some dust under the display. I thought maybe the problem will be kicked with this replacement. Failed! It's even there on the new one. Well I'm not going to change and change my iPhone 4S for new ones in order to maybe find the correct one, which hasn't this bug. As I posted above I'll get this week a new Access Point and I'll test if the issue is Access Point linked. I'll keep updating you guys!

i am going throught same problem too with my new i phone 4s , i found out that the only way is to swicth off the wifi from phone before leaving home and consequently the 3g connection operate ..so what u need to do is to avoid using wifi all the time except if you need it then swich it off again before leaving home ,because as far as i know the wifi search affect the 3g ..

Same problem here in Italy with TIM operator. The only solution is to go in airplane mode 3-5 sec and then come back.

    Good news ...

After installing the newest iOS 6 beta 2, i have no more problems at all. Everything ist running fine since a 2 weeks
No more dropped calls, no more problems switching between wifi and 3G!

So i think that´s the proof, that the issue is caused by the software

I'm a fairely new iPhone user, Verizon 4G with IOS 5.1.1 (from what I can tell) and I have this issue as well. My wife is using an iPhone 3 and has the same software but does not complain about this issue.

It has been extremely frustrating especially trying to run a business and not getting my emails because my phone failed to revert.

Hopefully when IOS 6 is out in the US my issues will be fixed. I believe I have another friend who mentinoed this issue as well.

A few time I lost my 3G as well at night (when wifi was off) and I am not sure why. That issue seems to be OK now.

Airplane on/off fixes it and sometimes I go into Settings -> Network and it restores as well.

    Extremely frustrating though.

Further to my previous posting, after having the new 4S for a few weeks now, the new 4S that I got from Apple is working like it should, ie. 3G is kicking in automatically as it should.

So if you have AppleCare, and are willing to go through the hoops (process) that Customer Service will put you through with your defective phone (i.e. backup, Reset All Settings, restore, etc.),  a new phone might be the solution.

Very interessting Johnny23! Can anyone confirm this? At the moment I'm trying to solve the problem by buying a new Access Point. (I had a Cisco Linksys WAP610N. Now I'm testing a D-Link DAP-2310!)

So you think I should not buy another Access Point and wait for iOS 6.0?

Well ok, but if I have the possibility to test a new access point without buying it, I could give it a try, no?

i don't think that this would solve the problem. But every try is better  than doing nothing. I also tried 2 different acces points without any success. just wait for iOS 6 final or try the beta ;)
