Jul 18, 2012 12:48 PM in response to Johnny23by JedWare,I would have to agree with Johnny23. I don't think it is in any way related to access points. I had already upgraded my access points since my router was old and still had same problem.
Here is an update on my status. I heard back from at&t as I was heading out of town on vacation and oddly enough their solution was to wipe the phone and don't do a restore. This would cause me to lose a lot of app settings and I wasn't really interested in doing but said i would do once I returned from vacation. Also other users had done this with various degrees of success.
Oddly enough I didn't have any issues while on vacation in another area. Now the only changes I did to my phone was to disable my work exchange email account. I am starting to believe it is an OS issue with Exchange and push updates that is causing the issue. I am curious as to how many people that are experiencing this issue also have at least one Exchange account on their device?
I am holding off wiping my phone now that there may be a fix in ios6.

Jul 18, 2012 12:46 PM in response to Johnny23by Stema001,Well this sounds great. I'm happy to hear that the problem seems to be solved, but why Apple does not release a 5.1.2 for this?
The "problem" is that I can't wait dor iOS 6.0! ;) Well I think I have to... The developer account isn't worth this.! ;)

Jul 18, 2012 2:08 PM in response to injustby chiswede,Don't bother testing different access points. Mine does the same thing at home and at work.

Jul 19, 2012 12:49 PM in response to Stema001by peterwardgd,i know it sound like a fix thank god, we need more devs with the problem to confirm this. the more the better.
-
Jul 19, 2012 12:56 PM in response to peterwardgdby Stema001,**** yea! Please, more devs have to confirm this!
@ chriswede: Ok, but I have to possibility to test a new access point for 14 days & for free. If it fixes the issue I can give my old one back (for a certain refund) and keep the new one. If it doesn't fix the issue I can give it back without any problem or costs.

Jul 20, 2012 2:44 AM in response to injustby peterwardgd, hmm apparently not all 4s phones have the 3g toggle option im not sure if its dependant on carrier or whether its only available on factory unlocked models. im unsure if mine is as i bought it on ebay and started using an 02 sim straight away.
Other people with 4s phones on other networks are reporting the same 3g issues. Is the 3g toggle related to the problem?

Jul 22, 2012 4:08 AM in response to peterwardgdby fbx1100,Mine (4S) has the same problem, starting yesterday. No 3G after spending a few hours longer on Wifi than normal. Only, my 3G doesn't come on with *any* of the methods tried above. Airplane mode, Mobile data, resetting settings, hard resets, etc etc. None make a shred of difference. 3G came on very briefly for about 15 minutes for no apparent reason when I was out about town (and data worked) but since then, nothing.

Jul 30, 2012 8:30 AM in response to juliedan3by chiswede,Nice, someone mentions j-brking to try to fix the problem and the post is deleted in about 10 seconds, but not a word from Apple in the thread acknowledging the issue.
-
Jul 30, 2012 8:35 AM in response to injustby nicholasfromwaukesha, yeah really. I was like where the heck did my post go.
Anyway - I JUSt fixed my issue - we will see for how long.
1. Open Settings.
2. Tap General.
3. Select Reset.
4. Choose Reset Network Settings.
5. Restart the iPhone 4.

Jul 30, 2012 9:35 AM in response to nicholasfromwaukeshaby juliedan3,Nicholasfromwaukesha, good luck, hope it lasts, but I tried that several times, works for a while, but once I loaded back my apps, music and photos, turned on SIRI, and loaded my passwords for WiFi zones, it soon went back to the same problem again.
One rep from AppleCare told me that he thinks there is an app that may be corrupting the iOS.
I doubt that also, because I'm running a 4 and a 4S off the same iOS, same iTunes, the same apps, and the same WiFi zones, and there is no problem with the 4, only the 4S

Jul 30, 2012 10:29 AM in response to injustby Stema001,As some of you guys may know, I was trying to solve the issue by buying an other access point. I bought an Apple AirPort Expess 2012. This not for the main reason to fix the issue. It would be a nice side-effect. I bought the Apple AirPort Express to have an 802.11n auto-dualband Access Point, which is very easy to setup. (My setup time was 4 minutes! I'm very happy with this Apple product!)
To the problem. The new access point didn't fixed the issue.
Now, this is what I feedbacked to Apple:
---
Dear Apple,
are you kidding us? I say 'us', because many iPhone 4S users have the following bug since October 2011 (iPhone 4S release!) and nothing changed so far (even not with iOS 5.1.1). We, well I'm, feed-backing this bug every week, in order to get your attention, but after all it seems that you're not paying attention to this major bug.
So, I have to report a major bug of the iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1).
After 802.11n dualband WiFi connection (Linksys WAP610n, latest firmware) for some minutes the iPhone 4S is not able to reconnect to the 3G network. The only "solution" is, to switch on/off the flymode. Well this is not a solution. The high-end iPhone 4S should be able to reconnect to 3G without any problem...
Here my solution tries:
1) I got a new iPhone 4S, but this due to an other Hardware issue (dust under display). Well, it didn't fixed the issue.
(With the new iPhone, I've also got a new sim-card!)
2) I reseted the Access Point several times, but first, I kicked the WiFi out of my iPhone. With "irgnore network"! I even changed my Access Point. Now I use the Apple AirPort Express 2012 (latest firmwire). NO CHANGES! Bug is still there!
3) Reset network-settings in the iPhones' settings! No changes!
So, I changed the iPhone, the sim-card, the Access Point & reseted the Cisco Access Point several times & the network settings and all devices have the latest firmware.
Due to my solution tries, it's clearly a software issue of iOS! Well, some guy in the Apple Support Community reported that iOS 6.0 (beta) fixed the issue. I hope so, but why don't you bring a iOS 5.1.2 that fixes this issue? I won't/can't wait for iOS 6.0!
Other people have to same issue. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3470007?start=135&tstart=0
P.S.: I use the luxembourgish provider "Tango"!
I'm and many other 4S users are very angry about how Apple is or ISN'T aware of this issue. It's a shame!
This is very annoying. Fix this. Fast.
---
I hope iOS 6.0 or maybe a iOS 5.1.2 fixes the issue soon!
Guys, keep feedbacking weekly! http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Jul 30, 2012 10:38 AM in response to Stema001by JedWare,I believe the bug is in iPhone's push updates. From my testing I have disabled one of my Exchange accounts and my phone has not been having the issue lately. Again this is just what I have observed on my phone and I am waiting for some update from Apple to address.
