Q: Iphone 4s - 3G connection disappears after using wi-fi

Hi!

I have an odd problem with my Iphone 4s. After using a wi-fi connection at home and going out I've noticed that the phone doesn't switch automatically to 3g connection. Instead it states that there's no internet connection available at all. But if I'm restarting the phone (shut down, new start) then I get a 3g connection back immediately. This looks really annoying. Any ideas how to solve it?

Thanks!

iPhone 4S, iOS 5

Wow, did you not read the full posts - this is a major issue with the iPhone - you shouldn't have to reset your phone multiple times per day to maintain data connectivity -

Problem seems to be solved by the new iOS 6... Do other iOS 6 users still lose connection?

Yes. I can confirm this until now. iOS 6 seems to have fixed the issue. Finally...

I think so - at least I haven't had data connection drop since updating and this is the longest I've gone in a number of weeks without it dropping - so, fingers crossed that the bug is resolved!

I've updated to iOS 6 and ... yesterday I've seen the same issue with nog 3G after Wifi again. I hope this occurs only once.

Still I believe this is an issue that is also with the provider. I've seen posts from people from Belgium with Proximus and people from the Luxemburg counterpart Tango as well. This seems to be more then just a coincidence.

First ever post so not sure what I'm doing! I have a 4s on Tesco (02) I have had the problem where I loss 3G (it shows UNABLE TO GET RESULTS. PLEASE CHECK YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION) I am on my 3rd new phone and have done countless resets. I am convinced its connected to my wifi.  The only way to get 3G back is to totally reset the phone. Apple in Bristol all say they have never heard of this. One tried to blame my network, even though its been fine for the first 9 months if having it! I am now on ios6 and its still happening. It was fine for about 2 weeks and suddenly went again.

This is the first time I have seriously considered leaving iPhone!

    HELP!

    Hi everyone.

I have an iPhone 4S, and have not had too many issues at all regarding WIFI; HOWEVER, all the problems you guys are encountering I have today. My WIFI is connected but the 3G icon is still present. And yes, I've done the network reset and everything, but it refuses to use the WIFI for data, just my data plan; the issue continues at different hotspots, not just my home router. So there's definitely still a bug.

I had the problem with iOS 5 in combination with a iPhone 4S and with the Belgium Proximus as provider. Now, after upgrading to iOS 6 and leaving all the others (iPhone and provider) untouched, all these problems are totally solved. I really thinks the cause was due to a combination of provider / iOS5.

Haven't had the problem for a couple of days/weeks now. So... Knocking on wood... The issue seems resolved. BUT it's also clear that this definitely was a Priximus problem in Belgium as well as we Belgians are statistically over represented in this help forum.

That would certainly suggest it is a problem with your service provider, not the phone or ios

My problem on an older phone resolved after upgrade to ios6 but I also learned that a tower near me was recently replaced due to problems so I'm not sure if it was either/or both?  Sounds like many think it is a combined problem with Apple and the providers.  It is not just WiFi switching to cellular data, but sometimes the data connection just is lost irrespective of using WiFi.

    Good Luck.
