Q: Iphone 4s - 3G connection disappears after using wi-fi

Hi!

I have an odd problem with my Iphone 4s. After using a wi-fi connection at home and going out I've noticed that the phone doesn't switch automatically to 3g connection. Instead it states that there's no internet connection available at all. But if I'm restarting the phone (shut down, new start) then I get a 3g connection back immediately. This looks really annoying. Any ideas how to solve it?

Thanks!

iPhone 4S, iOS 5

Right my latest! I'm on my 4th 4s and 2nd SIM card. Was ok for a week then 3G went again for 2 days. I am on Tesco (O2) Strangely, a friend had exactly the same (lost and got back 3G more or less the same time as me, within half hour) he is on vodaphone.

Apple won't listen and blame my provider. Tesco are now looking into it but not expecting too much.

Whenever 3G is loss I have the 3G sign displayed on screen and strong signal bars.

    HELP!!!!!

How many times do I have to turn off email notifications on this subject?

Has still yet to happen to me since I did what I laid out many posts ago.

Just like your suggestion didn't work for many people, it doesn't work for me either

My phone has had everything reset several times including a full restore and set up as new

Hi I have a similar problem but it is ever since the network EE was introduced I can't get 3g on my iPhone. I have tried the airplane mode and turning off and turning back on nothing works and it seems i'm not even in the area from EE 4g. I'm seriously annoyed by this.

I do agree that the problem is a software and carrier combination.

I had 2 iPhone 4 in the same house, using the same wifi and carrier. I had problems with one for over 6 months and have tried all fixes that were mentioned on this thread. None fixed the issue while the other phone never had this problem. You would think that it's an app that is causing this since that is the only difference between the first and the second. Bought 2 new iPhone 5 and started by restoring the first. I faced the same problem! I reset the phone to factory settings twice, one from the phone and once from iTunes after updating to latest 6.01 release. Used a brand new Mac with no previous iPhone backups on it to set it up as a new phone. Installed apps from scratch and still had the same problem! One thing was never erased even after 2 wipe out was the stocks app info and the original weather app (weird but not sure it has anything to do).

UPDATE on latest troubleshooting: Switched sim cards on same network

I inserted the second SIM card (same carrier but never had a problem) in the iPhone 4 that always had problems and while keeping all apps and data on it. Then I inserted the first SIM card that I always had problems with, in the new iPhone 5 that has a clean activation with not a single app. I went out of the same wifi holding both phones to a NO signal area then came back to where there was signal. Results were that the new unused phone didn't get back the 3G network until a reboot while the iPhone 4 had its 3G kick in immediately. Although I am not happy with the results but I am glad to report that losing your backup and instal fresh will not help (at least in my case). My guess is that the server that is hosting my number on the carrier side is not refreshing. Remember that the other number is with the same carrier too.

P.s. I used the same iPhone 4 on the AT&T network in CA and NY and never this issue. This is happening on the Alfa network in Beirut.

Hope this helps some of you to either confirm this scenario or prove it wrong

This usually solves my problems when 3g every once in a while disappear completely:

    Goto settings and select provider/carrier

When it is done searching click Automatic on and off untill you can select the one you want with a checkmark. Select the one you want and reboot the phone.

Can't believe this had enough problems doing my sim swap with Vodafone, now have lost my 3G only had the phone 24 hours have tried the airplane mode, didn't make any difference, disgusted with Apple, what would SJ say if he were still here? Apple get your act together!

had this problem since my first iphone 4 over a year ago. switched phones and have a new iphone 4. same problem occurring again.

recently it seems to be getting worse.

If Apple don't fix this soon, I will have no option but to switch to samsung. I do not believe I will purchase an apple product again.

I'm serious. I never owned an ipod or an imac or any apple product prior to this because I didn't like apple as a company. I decided to give them a chance and this is what I get....
