Q: Iphone 4s - 3G connection disappears after using wi-fi

Hi!

I have an odd problem with my Iphone 4s. After using a wi-fi connection at home and going out I've noticed that the phone doesn't switch automatically to 3g connection. Instead it states that there's no internet connection available at all. But if I'm restarting the phone (shut down, new start) then I get a 3g connection back immediately. This looks really annoying. Any ideas how to solve it?

Thanks!

After I restored my 4S to the second release of iOS 5.0.1 (as shown on the apple support page that someone posted earlier) that was specifically for the 4S, I didn't seem to have the problem anymore.  Neither has my coworker (he has not updated to iOS 5.1 yet).  I updated to iOS 5.1 last night, so I have not had enought time to see if the problem came back with this release.  I will let everyone know if I do have the problem again.

    Hi rpfuhl,

could you tell us which iOS version you are using right now? You can find this in the Settings > General > About > Version

    Thx,

    Hans

    Currently I am on 5.1 (9B179)

iPhone came with 5.0 - 3G switching problem

    Updated to 5.0.1 (9A405) - 3G switching problem

Updated to 5.0.1 (9A406) - NO switching problem (I had to do a restore to get this because I was already on 5.0.1)

Updated to 5.1 (9B179) - NO switching problem at this time

My coworker has had the same results, except for he has not upated to 5.1 yet.

9A406 - helped but for a while.. 9B179 actually changed nothing re 3g-wifi case. Looks like the problem is within carrier's setting or something else. The case depends imho on operators settings. I will try another sim, wull upd you

I changed my sim card to another data carrier. NO problem at all. BTW looks like ous issue is closely linked with this one https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3410939?start=0&tstart=0

I have the same issue. Went to an Apple Store and they changed me the iPhone 4s for a new one, but I was having the same issue.

I have this issue every day. Yesterday I switched on Data Roaming and I didn't have connection problems since

    (last 36 hours and counting)

I have an iPhone 4s wirth iOS 5.1 with Simyo in Spain. I didn't  have to change my sim card.

I think I solved this issue. This is my history of actions:

    Phone came with 5.0.1 (9A404) - 3G switching problem

Installed a new SIM card - still 3G switching problem

    Updated to 5.0.1 (9A406) - still 3G switching problem

    Updated to 5.1 (9B179) - still 3G switching problem

Full reset and restore  - still 3G switching problem

Created new user (administrator) on my host iMac (user 'test') and full reset from within the iTunes of user 'test' - 3G switching problem solved

I hope it remains solved, but so far it looks OK.

    Regards,

    Hans

@johnny23: Me neither, although it looked fine the first hours after the full reset. Also a brand new SIM card (same provider but with different phone number, so no potential 'contamination' with previous settings..) didn't help...

Finally called Apple support and they said to send the phone back for reparation... If we would count - and bill - our hours talking to Apple support about this, they should extend the warranty by a factor 10...

I already changed my iPhone on Apple Store with no success.

I received a new micro sim from my provider (O2 Germany) with no success

I restored my iPhone so many times with no better results

Now i opend a bug report to apple looking forward what will happen ...

To change the provider means to withdraw from the contract - and i think that´s the problem.

Do I have to attest that the problem is up to my provider? O2 Germany says that the problem ist up to apple.

In Russia it's easier to do ^)

Usual thing - provider will say it's apple problem and vice versa. One thing for sure - new iphone in my case showed same problem. And the service support officialy gave me the paper that my iphone is working fine with no defects. By the problem appeared again. I changed the provider and voila no problems at all. By the way I tried to put old sim card - the problem reappeared. So conclusions you can make yourself
