Can't transfer/sync digital copies of movies to iPad 2 - authorization issues

Is there a way or a need to authorize an iPad to play digital copies of movies? Over the past month, i've bought a few movies that have the downloadable digital copy option. I tried to physically transfer and also tried to sync through the iPad screen within iTunes the following movies: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Captain America, The Big Lebowski, and Transformers Dark of the Moon to transfer to my iPad, and I get a dialogue box that says: "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPad because you are not authorized for them on this computer." Then it lists those movies I just mentioned and refuses to put them on my iPad. I had bought the X-Men First Class and the THOR movies, and both those digital copies transferred just fine. My iMac that the iPad is hooked up to is authorized, and I didnt think that you had to or even could authorize an iPad. At least I didnt see an option for it within the settings panel.

I even bought the concert "Pearl Jam: The Kids are twenty" through iTunes ON my ipad, and when i just recently updated to the latest OS on my iPad, it took all my movies and music off, and when i went to put the Pearl Jam concert back on my iPad, it gave me that same authorization dialogue box and refused to transfer the film to my iPad. Which makes no sense because it played fine on my iPad after i downloaded it FROM my iPad.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm having the same problem but with tv shows I have purchased through iTunes and now want to transfer to my iPad. I don't have an answer for you, and iTunes support seems to be fairly useless at trying to fix this. My computer is authorized and the content is in my library, the problem is trying to sync tv shows to my iPad.

Anyone have a solution yet??

Yep, they play fine through iTunes on my iMac. Just wont transfer or sync up to my iPad. Wonder if it is a Cloud bug or something... It's been driving me nuts. What version of OS and iTunes are you on? Do you have an iPad 1 or iPad 2?

Do you drag and drop them? Or use the sync feature in iTunes? Maybe I should deaauthorize all my computers and then re-authorize them. Worth a try, I guess...

i have itunes version 10.5 and i'm running ios5.... as for sycning them i do it by going to my device in itunes and going to the "movies" section and checking the ones i want to sync to my ipad2.

i will see if i can duplicate the problem on mine since we have the same movies involed.

and deauthorizing and then reauthorizing your computers wont hurt anything, and it just might do the trick.

good luck

I have few solutions below and I hope they will help you.

1, Open iTunes > Store menu on the top of iTunes > deauthorized this computer > you may need to deauthorized few times until it pops up 'this computer has not been authorised yet'

2, Go to Edit menu > Preference > Device tag > Reset sync history

3, Restart the PC

4, if you can, it should be better to download all the unsynced movies from iTunes Store by your Apple account.

5, Open iTunes, authorise your PC again

6, On iTunes > Device > Summary > Options > Check ' manually manage music and videos ' > drag the movies from library to your device

7, if the problem still persist, you may need to create a new system account and sync via iTunes followed all the steps above on new system account

I deactivated all computers through iTunes, reactivated the iMac I am using, restarted. Still no luck. Went in and switched a few settings in my iPad, activated its' Cloud feature... Still nothing. then NONE of my movies would transfer over. Then I doubleclicked on one of them, and had to authorize that one. Then all of a sudden ALL the movies transferred to my iPad with no problem. I have no idea what that was all about.

Now on to the next problem, trying to access my printer via my wireless connection...

Thanks for all your help, guys!

What did you do exactly to overcome this issue?

I am experiencing the same problem (not copied to iPad because you are not authorized for it on this computer) and I tried many deauthorizes without success

I can't do the deauthorize all until mid next year since I did it at some point this year

So I've been trying to deauthorize the Mac that I use to sync the iPad with and it's not working for me

The TV episodes play fine on the Mac but refuse to sync to the iPad

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I've only played with digital copies once but I do recall in the TOS for the movie, that you are usually allowed to have the movie on one computer and one digital device at a time. Could you have your iPad as device number two? Perhaps you need to go back to your DVD, deauthorize it on the device and authorize it on your iPad .

I've never done ths so it's kinda a shot in the dark. Once I realized the restrictions on digital copies I don't buy them anymore and just make my own.

This is for a purchased TV show on iTunes. I don't think there is a restriction on the number of devices you can sync purchased digital content. To my knowledge, the limit is on the number of computers authorized.

Also, I have done this before so something must have changed due to iCloud.

Not sure and any help would be appreciated

Thanks very much

iTunes is different from a purchased DVD with a digital copy. Many people seem to be having issues with tv shows after the iOS update.

With the purchased DVD it's likely that the problem isnt iTunes itself but the DRM on the movie file. And to resolve that you'll need to deal with the DVDs manufacturer. Check their website and they likely lay out how many devices you can use the file on and how to deauthorize/authorize different devices.

To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure what I did that fixed the problem. I deauthorized my mac and all other devices through iTunes a few times. Restarted. Reauthorized my iMac. No luck. I also activated my Cloud account, which i dont think had anything to do with the resolution. Then it took a turn for the worse and ALL my movies wouldnt transfer over to my iPad.

I played around a little more, and it seems like that after I went through and doubleclicked on a couple of the movies within the iTunes library to get that dialogue box about authorization, I just clicked okay and then all of a sudden ALL the movies transferred over successfully. That process didnt really make a whole lot of sense, but everything works fine now.

You might just want to deauthorize everything, reauthorize your mac, then sync up your iPad to that mac. After that, find your movie library in iTunes, doubleclick on every movie to see if that authorization dialogue box comes up and click okay. Then try to drag and drop them from that window pane to the iPad icon in the side column and see what happens. Good luck!

Other than deauthorize all, I've tried the steps above without success.

I'm going to see if other threads have been posted about this and see if there is any resolution and maybe I'll see if Apple store geniuses can take a look...

It is possible that the policy changed to disallow multiple iPads from viewing the same TV show but I would be very surprised to see that.

I had originally downloaded the TV shows on iTunes on my Windows laptop, then synced it to my wife's iPad, then copied the files to my MacBook Air and then synced to my iPad from the air... All four devices have the same store ID and authorization...

I've done this many times without problems but clearly something changed lately

Will keep investigating and thanks so much everyone for all the advice so far
