I have been able to use iTunes and sync music between the iPad2 and the computer. I have also loaded some albums onto iTunes on the computer - from original cds ie not burnt cds - but these do not sync across to the iPad. The only music that syncs is the music I have purchased from iTunes. Have tried dragging and dropping the album onto 'device' but no luck. Suggestions

MIne synced automatically (my entire iTunes library). As you note from my profile, my desktop computer is an iMac running OS X 10.7.2. You did not indicate what computer and software you are using.

It seems the file format of songs from CD is not compatible with iPad. You can select the songs from CDs on the iTunes, and click the right button on the mouse or tap the trackpad using two fingers, then Creat AAC Version. And now, try to drag and drop the converted songs to your iPad.

It's a HP running on Windows XP. I'm thinking there must be some work around for music transfer of music not purchased through iTunes - but haven't found anything that works yet....thanks for trying to help maybe someone else will have the solution
Just tried converting to acc format. Again it won't let me drag and drop - by won't let me I mean I can drag the music to the device - music file - but nothing happens - it doesn't highlight and when i 'drop' nothing changes. Again appreciate the help but alas no luck. Unless there is a trick to the drag a drop in iTunes???
Select your device on the left of iTunes. Tap the Music tab on the top, then back to Summery, select Manually manage music and videos.
If you have your other music in a file, and if it is a proper format,(and mp3 works just fine) you just need to add the music, where ever it is, to the i tunes library. At the top of i tunes, select add to library, then tell i tunes where it is. It will now show up so that you can select it for syncing.
Use iTunes to 'rip' your cd (digitize the music files) then, with your device attached, use iTunes to put that music onto the iPad.
I did this and it worked I was able to manually move the selected tracks (didn'tneed to covert them to acc) and was all able to transfer the cover art. This is a good outcome and really appreciate the guidance. Unfortunately now that I have selected the manually manage music option - I can't deselect that option. When I do I get a warning that says 'I will erase this iPads music and replace it with the iTunes on the computer'. This is not some thing I want to do as I have music on my iPad from a different iTunes account as well as my own account (these songs are not on the computer). Anyway not really a problem as it does't take long to do the manual move. Thanks again
Try to input the music into iTunes on your computer and then sync the iPad with iTunes. This way, you can create playlists and such and easily manage it using the Music app.
