Also, dont forget that the size (16GB, 32GB, 64GB) are the storage, not the RAM. The RAM is fixed at 512mb regardless of model and is the memory used for running apps. It's almost meaningless with iPad's as they manage it so well.

The storage is what is used to actually hold your videos, apps and music. Also, size is never as reported as some space is lost in the file system and some in other bits. So a 16GB iPad actually has around 14GB usable.

Always consider what you plan on storing on your iPad. We have a 32GB model and only store a little bit on there as our entire 70GB of music will never fit on and other space is eaten up by apps.

No. Hence, as with any Apple mobile device, you are best to maximize the flash when you purchase the device (in case anyone here is planning a new purchase).

This is a fundamental disadvantege of iOS devices verses Android, most of which suppord micro SD cards upt to 128GB (in addition to the installed flash).

I realize it's considered sacreligious to make such comparisons here but Apple needs to read it.

I'm hoping they make this an option for iPad3 or I won't bother buy that either, what is essentially an internet/media device with limited storage options is a rediculous proposition, regardless of how must cloud storage we have since mobile devices cost $$$ for bandwidth and sometimes connectivity ain't.

I can do the same with my 500GB Time Capsule and you can also connect any external USB drive to an Air Station but that doesn't really solve to problem when you are using the iPad out of range to such external drives.

I think your comment is helpful to the extent that if someone already has a 16GB iPad and looking for some way to increase storage this is one option, but for mobile use I'd strongly suggest people buy as much Flash as they can afford, at least 32GB and prefereably 64GB. Granted the cost of this is a bit inflated verses to comparable cost of an SD card, but if you want to use an iPad or iPhone for a mobile media device btter have more then 16GB if possible.

Apple needs to get over the sealed box fetish and put a friggin card slot on the thing so users can have a little freedom. It is also very useful, for example, if you are shooting with a digital camera and want to quickly view the results on an iPad, you could just plugand play.

Has Apple forgotten user friendliness is the basis of good design?
