Capturing from my canon vixia HV40 was working, now it doesnt ?

So i've been using final cut pro 7 for a while with my canon vixia hv40 capturing my minidv footage trough a firewire cable. It was all working properly till i updated my Itunes (10) and some software updates. Now, final cut pro doesn't recognize my camera, it says when i open the program Unable to locate the following external devices : apple firewire NTSC (720x480). My setting are still the same on my camera and on final cut pro. For my Video and audio settings everything is set at DV-NTSC 48 kHz . I've deleted my preferences for the program and tried to create another user to rerun final cut but nothing works. I have a video project due in 2 weeks could somebody help me ????

Go back to the previous version of iTunes that you had installed.

What settings are still the same?

Is device control set to FW NTSC Basic?

I also have an Iphone 4s, that's the reason why i had to update my itunes.

Is there a way i could try something without going back to my old itunes ?

My Video and Audio settings are the same:

Sequence Preset: DV-NTSC 48 kHz

Capture Preset :DV-NTSC 48 kHz

Device control Preset: Firewire NTSC (i've also tried the Firewire NTSC Basic)

Video Playback : apple firewire NTSC (720x480)

and my Easy setup is set to :DV-NTSC

The Canon HV-40 can shoot both HDV and DV, are you confident your tapes are DV?

Yes, it is a MINIDV DVM60 panasonic casette, shot in sp mode.

MiniDV is a tape cassette size, not a video format or codec.

FWIW, the only fix I'm aware of is to go back to your previous version of iTunes. If you need the newer version, you'll need to create a dual-boot system.

So david , what you are telling me is that Itunes did affect FCP ?

Did it happen to other people ?

Just want a confirmation before i do the change.

Also, i though HDV format wasn't possible on Minidv cassette ( i can be wrong ).

You are incorrect. The cassette size/shape are the same for both an HDV and a DV recording, and the same cassette can be used for both formats.

I have an HV-30, not HV-40, but if you play the tape back in the camera, "HDV" or "DV" should display on the camera flip out lcd screen, showing which format you have recorded in.

MiniDV tapes can be used to record both DV and HDV, depending on the camera's capabilities, of course.

I've seen several threads lately on this forum and on the FCE forum regarding the iTunes update disabling HDV capture. I don't work with HDV so I have no first hand knowledge, but you may want to try to search the forums for related posts.

If you recorded in DV mode (standard definition), I don't recall reading that the iTunes update affected that fucntion, but you may need to do more research before proceeding.

Just to see, I just successfully captured both HDV and DV from my Canon HV-30 into FCP-7 running on 10.6.8 with iTunes 10.5 installed.

Are you connecting to your camera via the Firewire port?

I'll give it a try on a system running Lion.

So you guys were right, ended up this cassette was shot in HDV format and all my other cassette were in DV format ! So i just changed the easy setup setting to HDV 108i50 FireWire Basic and VOILÀ !
