canon pixma mx870 falls off network

I can add the printer on my laptop. The laptop is a macbook pro connected to the network via wireless.

The canon pixma mx870 is connected to the network via ethernet.

The printer works fine for about 30 minutes then I go to print to it and it says that it's offline.
