Clicking on "Photos" under LIBRARY only displays results for one project

I created a new smart album and loaded it with pictures from a vacation trip. Clearly I've done something bizarre because now when I click on the "Photos" button under "Library"in the inspector, all I see are the photoes from my recently created smart album. I've checked every place I can see to make sure I haven't got a filter set. All my projects are still in place and all my photoes are still accessible through the "Projects"view and they're all still listed in the inspector under "Projects & Albums". I just can't see all my photos when I click on "Photos"... this used to work... any ideas what I might have inadvertantly done?

THanks

Hi Jim. Try this. If it works, thank Frank Caggiano 🙂 .

History is a messy thing 🙂 . Here's the first (and only) mention I could find:

Helpful AnswerRe: Stacked photo shows in "Photos" but not in "Project"

My recollection is that this was something Frank figured out but it wasn't understood as broadly useful until after it was figured out. Then, at some time later, "all of a sudden" the problem seemed obvious, and the solution was at hand. I think it got posted several times before I named it after its creator so people would know whom to thank for this simple, elegant, and effective solution 😉 .

It will also do the same thing with the Flagged album. But there I've actually found it useful, modifying it so that only flagged images or a certain rating or color label go into the Flagged album.

Just remember to clear it after you're done!

Of course you could just create your own Flagged smart album to do the same thing but if its just a temporary grouping doing it this way keeps you from having to clutter up the library with temporary smart albums that you then have to delete.

Fire-starter!

😁.

More seriously: why not just use the built-in (two-click) filters in Flagged View? The problem isn't creating the filtered group, it's clearing the filter.

Maybe I have my dumb-hat on today. It's weird -- when I put it on, it becomes invisible and I can't tell if I'm wearing it.

(I did manage to once set my Flagged View to filter for "Not flagged" ... using one of Gomez invisible filters. This worked as a "proof of concept", but I just couldn't find a use for it.)

I find it useful for those X and (Y or Z) situations. The X is the invisible filter on the Flagged album and then I use the filter in the Flagged Browser to do the Y or Z.

Again you can do this by first getting all the X's and making an album for them and then doing the Y or Z on the album but if its something I'm going to be working with for a while and changing the X I find it easier to just tuck the X away in the Flagged album. Else I need to keep making albums with the new X's.

But then I just got back from a 50 mile ride and my glycogen is a tad low so my brain may not be working up to snuff right now 😝

More history:

While searching for the original reference I noticed that the way older messages are presented does change the context of a message in a funny way - the avatar and points are not the same as on the day the message was posted originally.

Okay.. I'm right back where I started. I created a second smart album and started to keyword photoes to add to it. Not when I click phtotes NOTHING shows up. I immediately went to try clear the invisible filter with the "Double Double Reverse Caggiano" :-) but there doesn't seem to be one. I can't find anything set anywhere that would cause the photos not to show up.... I've tried rebuilding the library and that didn't help either ... any further thoughts? I just moved all my images ( about 12,000) from photoshop on my lenovo lap top to my band new iMAC and thought "what the heck. I'm running an apple machine, lets run the apple software". Ooops... now I get to retag all 12,000 photos. The constant vanishing of all the photos from the browser view isn't helping. Up side of this is I'm really enjoying going back and looking at photos I'd forgotten I even had! And I didn't really like the tag structure I had anyway so now I get to create a new one.

But that definitely looks like the "invisible filter" problem again. Try the "Double Double Reverse Caggiano" again (maybe the Triple Triple Reverse Caggiano is needed), if that does not help, try to set a new visible filter for the Photos View:

Select the Photos View, type Command()-F, in the HUD clear all rules, click "add rule" and add a new rule of your own to force the reevaluation of the filter. If some images are visible again, remove the new rule and clear the filter completely. Sometimes this simple trick helps to clear an invisible filter.

Removed all of the rules... created some new rules... nothing showed up. Got rid of the rules.... nothing shows up... If I click on Faces... it works... Places ... works.... Projects .. works.... click projects ..... nothing....

I've tried opening the HUD for each of my smart albums and then going to Photoes to remove any invisible filter ... nothing....

Appreciate your help! ... Any other suggestions :-)

Cheers

Jim
