Turn iPhone 4S Shutter Sound Off

Flipping the mute switch to kill the shutter sound on the camera worked on iPhone 3 and iPhone 4 but NOT on the 4S. It's horrendously loud. Is there any way to turn it off?

Ok so I could have said very loud rather than horrendously loud - wow modular747, with great advice like that I can see why s/he got to level 5!

The interesting thing I discovered is that in Japan you can't switch the shutter sound to mute deliberately because of all the perverts taking up skirt shots! I did find an ap that silences it but doesn't work for highest res shots. Thanks anyway guys.

The "advice" part was pointing out that the silent switch does silence the shutter for me and everyone I know. Mentioning your annoying hyperbole which greatly exaggerated the "problem", was strictly commentary. On my phone, the shutter isn't any louder than the lock click and neither are "very loud."

Wow! That's actually a law??

Try taking a picture without anyone knowing in a crowded quiet room with that ridiculous shutter sound on.

Glad to see you like to invade other's privacy and take pictures without them being aware... That's why the shutter sound is there,

People dont come here to be put down. Help people or shut it.

As I pointed out in the second post in this thread, the sound is muted when the silent switch is set, unlike what the OP claimed (though not sure that there is a law in Japan banning silent cameras). And, the sound isn't "horrendously loud" to any rational person. People who make statements like that are looking to whine, not for help.

So what I found was that you have to switch the side button to mute the phone and it will work. BUT, if you adjust your volume through the assistive touch floating button thing then you will have to flip the mute switch on the side off and then back on again, even if everything says you are muted. Make sense? Hope so! And I hope that helps.

Modular747 you're right it's not horrendously loud. I would say it's audaciously loud. It's particularly annoying when you're trying to take a picture of your 1 and 2 year old without ruining that spontaneous moment by making them aware of the fact that you're looking at them. But since you're the authority on all things rational you might have to educate me on that.
