Hello Fruhulda

Quite everything is in alphabetic oder here.

There is just a small set of fonts out of order but as far as I know, it'sn't related to fonts which I added to the system.

I have several fonts which may be defined as old True Type fonts and they are in the alphabetized area.

I have also three fonts which I bought when I was working as a potter because I used them for my documents headers and for my business cards.

As you may see, there is a font suitcase and a Postscript font.

In the fonts menu there is a single entry : Amelia in the alphabetized area.

I installed the entire set of fonts embedded in Adobe's CS5 trial package.

Quite all of them are in the alphabetized area.

Adobe Caslon Pro and Adobe Gothic Std are the tywo exceptions. Both are otf fonts like the others.

Monotype Corsiva is M…oSoft Font Suitcase which was in the Office trial package.

My first message was about the Fonts menu available in Pages, the one allowing to display the font names using the fonts themselves.

The Fonts menu available in TextEdit is slightly different. As you may see, some fonts are missing.

The funny point is most of the missing ones are Apple ones.

It may be meaningful to add that I described what I get under Lion.

The differences are due to the fact that I zipped some Adobe fonts which I will never use.

Monotype Sorts is zipped too.

I don't know which parameter is ruling the fact that this small set of fonts is at the bottom.

The Adobe's ones are otf fonts as the other Adobe fonts which are alphabetized.

I don't think that the OP's fonts aren't in this range because he asked about fonts which he bought.

At this time, I'm trying to understand where are defined the two small sets appearing at top of the TextEdit Fonts menu :

In the very first group most of them are fonts which I tested about one month ago and never reused since.

I thought that they must be stored in a preferences file but I don't find such one.

Quit Pages

Delete its fonts cache file :

<startupVolume>:Users:<userAccount>:Library:Caches:com.apple.iWork.fonts

Restart Pages

It will rebuild its database and so I guess that you will get an ordered menu.

Have you the fonts in alphabetical order Yvan? I don't and it is a system "problem"/"feature". I looked a little and I think it has to do with which type of font it is. Adobe fonts (postscript fonts) and old True type fonts are at the bottom of the font menu both in TextEdit , Pages and the Font book. I thought it might have to do where they are stored on the computer but it hasn't.

Thanks guys. But Yvan, it sounds like maybe the Adobe fonts - Caslon Pro and Garamond Pro - don't go in alphatebtical order, even in yours. So perhaps fruhulda is correct that there is something about them that the program dumps to the back. But not quite to the back - after Zapfino, the fonts I bought or added - Apple Garamond, ADobe Caslon, etc - appear in alphabetical order, inserted in between Apple Braille, etc.

So it seems to be there are two alphabetical lists of fonts

1. Abadi Condensed -> Zapfino;

2. Apple Braille -> Monotype Sorts

Some of the fonts I bought - Celtic Garamond, for example - insert alphabetically into the first group;

Some other fonts I bought - the two Adobe fonts particularly - insert alphabetically into the second group.

Any idea why there are 2 lists and what determines which font goes into which grouping?

If I understand well what you wrote, you have exactly the same behavior than fruhulda and me.

I already answered to your question :

I don't know which parameter is ruling the fact that this small set of fonts is at the bottom.
