a couple problems with that, 1) I don't connect my phone to itunes, 2) there is no summary page.... Apparently I'm missing something.

1) You must connect to iTunes to change this setting. 2) You can't see this option on your iPhone, it is in iTunes. When you connect your iPhone to iTunes, that's where you'll see the Summary page (the one with the picture of your iPhone).

Hi, I have the same problem except you can add another level of crazy for me: I do not own an iphone or any other apple device in which case I can't connect it to my laptop and change the setting. I assume that a neighbour has an iphone that tries to sync to my itunes repeteadly making the window pop up every 5 minutes..... I'm going mad, who designed this wonderful mess??? any ideas on how I can make itunes stop popping without owning an iphone? or is this another ploy buy apple to get people to by more of their products.

That really is not likely since the device would have to have at one time been physically connected and synced to your computer, AND Wi-Fi sync enabled while connected to your library, AND they'd have to be on your Wi-Fi network. Unless you have someone who did all this and lives within Wi-Fi range, and knows your network password, that's not what's happening.

Do you have any auxillary software add-ons to iTunes (e.g. Last.fm scrobbler)? Sometimes those get in the way of shutting iTunes down and it will re-open unless you shut the other software down first.

Hi rockmyplimsoul and thank you for your help. I am afraid I have no itunes add-ons at all, I run the program plain and simple and only use it to buy and listen to music. it was updated recently and that's when it started to pop up.

Regarding the mobile phones, I have two flatmates and a boyfriend who all have iphones and who connect to the same internet network as my laptop but I have never conected any of their devices to my laptop.

I see there is a new update again, I'm going to try that and fingers crossed it will be fixed.
