Spotlight / mdwrite problem

Hello, All:

I have an annoying problem with Spotlight / mdwrite. Everytime I do a spotlight search it crashes with this error:

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)

Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000

Application Specific Information:

*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Couldn't reset keychain settings! [osErr:100013]'

*** First throw call stack:

I have repaired my keychain (it said it didn't need repairing); ran the disk utility in recovery mode, checking both the hard drive and repairing permissions; reindexed Spotlight; reinstalled the OS.

Nothing has fixed this problem.

I have several users on my system, I am the only one affected.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

Running 10.7.2 here. I just noticed that Spotlight seems to be forever indexing. Now, I'm getting a general 'mdwrite error, this report will be sent to Apple automatically', whenever I hit the spotlight command or select the magnifying glass icon on the toolbar.

Nuisance. I have a call into Apple support about this. Has only happened recently AFAIK.

If I find out anything, will post back!

I had the same problem. Deleted the finder.plist, com.apple.finder.E7803C19-9AD2-57DC-BEEA-051EBDEE064C.plist.lockfile and finder.lockfile in the user library preferences folder. After that the error described by Micheal Rogers4 didn't appear again. I noticed somethig was wrong when I tried to set the "view all files option" in finder with the terminal entry: 'defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true' and it didn't work.

New findings:

I did another clean 10.7 installation and did this:

  1. Select my home folder on Finder.
  2. Click the lock button. (input my password)
  3. Select the Everyone group
  4. Select No Access
  5. Select apply to enclosed folders.
  6. Click ok to apply.

And this reproduce the mdwrite problem.

So, I am guessing this is only about the permission of my home folder.

Not about ARD.

I'll try to install Apple Remote Desktop only later.

To proove my idea.
