I have recently transferred my iTunes music to a new laptop. The music is present and playable on the new computer, but none of my folders or playlists were transferred. Since I have a considerable number of folders and playlists, I really need to have them transferred. How is this done?

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
Copying the entire iTunes folder does not work- I have tried it multiple times, using an external hard drive for the transfer. Is there a missing step? Does the iTunes library need to be consolidated on the old computer first?

It does work.
Don't copy only the /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ new computer.
Start iTunes.
It will be the same as it was on old computer.

If there is media outside the iTunes folder, yes.
