My iPhone 4 doesn't have Software Update, either. Under General it only has About and Usage in the first block. Any idea what's up with that? I'm experiencing the quickly draining battery problem and want to do the update. Unfortunately, I can't do it on my computer because it's old and doesn't have enough memory. Did I get a defective iPhone?
Sounds like the device is still on iOS4 which does not have the "Software Update" feature. Only iOS5 provides the Over The Air updates which creates the "Software Update" option in General.
Check Settings > General > About. What does the Version show?
Version 4.2.10. So, yes, that would tell me, with my limited knowledge that it is on iOS4. How do I upgrade to iOS5? How do I fix this battery problem? It went down 3% typing this message. Thanks!
The only way to update the iOS prior to version 5 is by connecting directly to a computer and updating via iTunes.
I have IOS 5.1.1, however I bought my partner a second hand iPhone 3GS today, I connected it to iTunes and it told me there was an update available. I completed the update and now it tells me its 4.2.1 and I have pressed the "check for update" button numerous times and it says that update 4.2.1 is the latest verion, yet I know its not and its really annoying me, any help to sort it out would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Then you have a 3G and NOT a 3GS.
If it claims to be upgraded and is at 4.2.1, it is most likely a 3G, not a 3GS.
i have the same problem as you i have 4.2.1 and it says that it is the latest update but i have an iPhone 3
Because as has already been stated, 4.2.1 is the end of the road for the 3G.
It simply is not a problem, it is a limitation of the hardware.
how do i update my itunes on windows 7 because my iphone is still on ios 4 and dosent have the software update feature yet please help
It's not an update to iTunes. It's an update to the phone. Just open iTunes and connect your phone. It shoud automatically detect the phone, check for updates, and prompt you there is one available and ask if you want to download and install it. (dont do it yet but..) If yes then dont disconnect your phone until it is absolutely complete.
Dont want to lose information? Back up and transfer purchases. iOS 4 upgrade to 5 and above has a history of data loss. Once the update is done then restore from back up that you created prior to updating.
Same thing happened to me
