Clearing Documents in App's Dock Icon
When I right click an app's icon in the dock, I get a list of previously opened documents.
How do I clear this list?

Open the application on any document; most applications will have an entry "clear menu" in the file menu:
File -> open recent -> clear menu
If the application does not have this menu item, it might be necessary to delete the preference files.
I cleared the history in File > Open History. History is empty. Doc icon context menu still has documents. Looking for the plist with those documents.
This question was prompted by the long list of very old documents in BBEdit's (10.1) dock context menu.
I'm running BBEdit 10.1 in Lion (10.7.2) on an iMac (27-inch, Late 2009)
Answer for BBEdit
Quit BBEdit
Delete ~/Preferences/com.barebones.bbedit.LSSharedFileList.plist and .lockfile
Restart Finder
