I would like to hide the inbox and have the whole screen to read the email when holding the ipad horizontally (landscape), just like when you hold it vertically (portrait).
Am I missing something easy? Thanks in advance...
No, it's not currently possible in landscape orientation, it only disappears in portrait orientation : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
Any clues to their (Apple's) plans to fix this obvious blunder? The older crowd (me) and their weaker eyes like to utilize the entire screen to read stuff.

I have no idea about Apple's plans, and I'm not sure why it's an 'obvious blunder'. You can set a minimum font size via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Minimum Font Size

Anyway, it's just my opinion, but I think you all are quick to defend the kids in Cupertino, and getting hung up on my characterization of this issue, rather than the issue itself.
I believe we, the customers, should have more options to customize the way we use these devices than we could ever use. Thats all...

"and I'm not sure why it's an 'obvious blunder' " - really - even if it had nothing to do with old eyes why not have the realestate to see whatever you are looking at - like maybe a drawing with details and on an ipod mini - give us the space 🙂
