Latest Java update broke Juniper Network Connect VPN client

Try running Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences > Network and delete all files. That will clean out old cache files that could be causing the problem.

I will check this myself as Juniper is critical for my work machine on 10.6.8.

I can definitely confirm this. Cleaning out cache files doesn't help. Please report this to Juniper. That is the best way to get it fixed. Juniper can diagnose what is actually causing the problem. If it is Juniper, they can fix it. If the problem is Java, they can get Apple's attention much more quickly than we can.

Unfortunately, Juniper's response is "Go away you little non-enterprise people. You bother me." We are supposed to report this to our IT administrators, who are likely to just say it is a Mac bug. It looks like we are stuck for the time being. Luckily, nothing else in the world depends on Java. I won't update my 10.6.8 machine until I hear that Juniper has fixed the bug.

Others un-installed the Java update in Snow Leopard by applying the "10.6.8 Combo Updater" to restore "core system components".

This appears to be the "client update" for 10.7.2: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459

It could restore the old Java version in the system, but ohers in this discussion or this fiorum may want to ring as to this "combo update" being a good idea.

Perhaps a new thread in the "Lion"-specific forum asking if this seems a good course of action.

Are you sure that you have a work-around? I have the same Network Connect issues, but when I attempt to connect via the web portal, it appears to work, but I have no actual connectivity.

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with Network Connect on a 10.7.2 machine. Unfortunately, the web portal workaround doesn't work for me either. It may work for some (i.e., for openthreads) but not all because of differences in security settings on the VPN server.

Has anyone found a reliable solution for this? Is it possible to uninstall the java update?

I can confirm that web portal works, but installed client works 1 time out of 10.

I am having the same problem with a Cisco AnyConnect client. Our IT won't allow us to load the client on the MAC, so we have to use a web portal via an older Firefox version (nothing newer works). When I try to get connected, the system asks for my credentials and accepts them, but never connects. I see a message in the bottom left corner of the browser window stating "Applet idJavaSun notloaded". This problem showed up immediately after I installed the latest java update. This is definitely a MAC/Java issue. I don't think it's Juniper or Cisco's problem.

Bump. Same issue here. Just hitching a ride in case a solution presents itself.

Updated to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 and problem still exists.

OS update would not fix it. This requires Java update.
