Hello. Why are some of my texts: iMessages (blue bubbles) and some are texts (green bubbles)? They are being sent from my phone to the same person (with an iPhone). Thanks!!!
Blue means the message was sent via iMessage. Green means the message was sent as a regular SMS.
What I don't get is that both types of texts are being sent from my phone, within the Message app, to the same phone. ??
At Settings > Messages, if you have "send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable" enabled, if iMessage is not available for you or the recipient at the time for whatever reason, it will be sent as SMS/MMS.
Yup, I see that under settings. Is there a reason to have that turned on? Not sure if I see the value of it. I just did a quick check and aside from one other texter (iPhone), it does not appear anywhere else in anyone else's texts.
Unless you never under any circumstances want to exchange regular SMS/MMS with an iPhone contact running iOS 5 with iMessage enabled, turn send as SMS when iMessage is not available off.
What is very likely considered valuable by many will not be considered valuable by all.

One of the values, and probably the most important of all, is that iMessages are sent via the web and do not count against your text plan. If you have a limited text plan, this can be a great feature. As time goes by, more and more will have iMessage and you could cut your bill by reducing your text plan.
Well, this may sound kinda dumb and trivial, but is there a way to at least make the bubbles the same color. Its irritating when one bubble is green and the next is blue?
No, you can't change the color of the bubbles. The different colors are there to indicate which type of message you send.
Also iMessage only works when both iPhones (or iPad) are connected to WiFi. That is why some of your text are iMessage and some are SMS. If you are on WiFi and your friend is not it will be sent as SMS.

iMessage works over either WiFi or 3G. Perhaps you're confusing it with FaceTime? FaceTime only works over WiFi.
I'm sorry I checked the manual and I was wrong, Meg was right. iMessage works over WiFi and 3G.

In the case that an iMessage won't go through (lack of 3G or WiFi network), the message will send over SMS (via cell tower) rather than data. So no, you can't change the color of the text bubbles. You're probably in a location where the network is fluctuating.
I've found myself in a battery killing loop after sending an iMessage. Doesn't want to switch itself back to 3G when Wifi drops. Thinks its still on Wifi. Be careful of this. At this point, send does not seem to time out.
