have a Mbox 2 and want to hook up to my mac pro for use in garage band, will it work?

I have hooked up my Mbox 2 to my mac book pro and it's not showing up in the inputs when I go to preferences. I hear the sound (bass) but not seeing the external input...though my mac says it sees "One midi input. Could anyone help with this for me. I'm very frustrated with Pro Tools and just want to get the ideas out faster onto Garage Band. Never used it, but have heard its easier. Thank you G

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6), tried and it's not regognizing it..

Just found a page on avid (pro tools) that has downloads for info regarding mostl of the questions about GB & Mbox. Here's the link:

http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=355061&ssdFilterCom munity10=368&ssdFilter_SearchKeyWord=download+coreaudio&Hilite=download+coreaudi o

I checked my version LE 7 for mac and on page 8, it spoke of how to connect to Itunes, Garage band , etc.

The directions had me change my Apple "System Preferances" then go to "sound", then 1st change output to correct "digidesign mbox 2" then afterwards check input, "Digidesign mbox 2."

HOWEVER: after I did this...Yes my MBOX now shows up in GB in all the spots it should (Preferences, Bottom of tracking.) But the it is STILL NOT RECORDING or showing up on the volume/gain meter.

Anyone know how to fix this?

(Digidesign says all Pro tools 7 and Pro tools LE 7, have the coreaudio driver already installed.)

Hi there. New to the forum. I found an AVID-Digidesign link, that I posted on forum post below, I thought it would go to you but realized I need to reply directly to you. You might want to read it. It's a great download with 3rd party instructions for pro tools & GB & ITunes.

HOWEVER: still not working for me. I now see the input & output choices in GB for Mbox, but still hear no bass when I record and there is no visual recording level lit up in the volume/recording gain meter.

Any clue on what I should do next.

The core drivers are installed. G

now that your mac seems to see the Mbox, did you go back to all the settings and make sure they're all there:

select the mbox in inputs and outputs (to be doubly sure, you could do this in both your System Preferences (-> Sound) as well as in GB preferences (-> Audio/MIDI).

then, with a real audio track created and selected, make sure you have the edit pane showing on the right, select the correct mbox channels for your input, and make sure the monitor is on.

(by the way, i tend to stay away from protools interfaces for GB for this very reason - don't like fussing with the digidesign CoreAudio driver).

Thank you. I did all those steps, and did them again as you said. There is the choice of "output" on the Apple Preference (1 to hear from the computer headset plug and one out of the Mbox) and I've tried both. Other then that I have done all you have said. I picked the mono 1 (which is waht I'm plugged into), monitor on. There is still no signal in the meter and no sound out of the computer and no recording.

Any other ideas? Is the Coreaudio Drive something that is "extra?" Avid says that its there in LE 7 and I have updated to 8.06...shouldn't that work? When I look on Avid it says there is not an extra driver to add, and not to add it.

And if not, what is the cheapest (affordable) interface I can get?

My god I just want tor record!!! Arg.

I've had the experience where a Digidesign CoreAudio driver simply doesn't work with the Mac OS version I was using. Updating the Mac OS had broke the CoreAudio driver, so the digi hardware no longer worked for GB / Logic. I'm not sure if that kind of incompatibility is the problem, but it's possible. It's also possible that some minor thing that no one has thought of - e.g. a switch that flips is flipped into the wrong position - is the problem. You also might want to try rebooting your computer and mbox a couple times if you haven't already done that. Sometimes that clears up stalled driver issues.

But I woudn't be surprised if it were an incompatible CoreAudio driver. If you were so inclined, you could chase it down on the DUC:

However, if you wanted to get a basic interface that worked out of the gate, this site has a good sampling:
