Q: iOS 5.0.1 problems - Searching for Network and battery life still isnt great.

So I dont know if anyone else is having this problem but I upgrade to iOS 5.1 today and it seems to me that my network is being dropped A LOT today.  I know it probably doesnt help that I'm on T-Mobile with a factory unlocked iPhone 4 but it seems that before I upgraded, I was able to keep my network for a longer amount of time.  Also, I think iOS 5.1 actually made the battery life worse.  Im down to 40% and thats without any calls, a few texts and very little wifi surfing.

Reply if your having the same problem lol

I changed the SIM card yesterday, and since then it has been working very well. And the battery life is also much better, so I guessed the problem with the battery under 5.0.1 was that since the network was constantly crashing, the phone was constantly re-searching for network and very likely wasting loads of enery.

Regarding the SIM, from apple care support they told me that 5.0.1 discontinued support for older version SIMs, so I guess that might the reason, tough Apple should definetely specify which SIMs work on 4s for us that bought an unlocked phone. We can't know if noone is told. Not showing a lot of respect for us faithful users.

Alright. It sounds like this is the solution: if you have a 4S, get the latest generation SIM card as 4S doesn't support older generations. If you have a 4, call your service provider and ask them to reset your account's network connection. This should take 2 seconds or so. (This is important as iOS5.0.1 changed the way the phone connects to the service provider. So, the connection needs to be reset.) Then, reset your phone to factory settings. Obviously, ensure you backup the phone before you restore.

Anyway, I no longer have a problem. Good luck to you all!

My iPhone 4S upgrade (from 3G) through Apple.com came with a new mini-SIM in it.

I have changed more than 20 sim cards for my 4S with IOS 5.01.

So many people have the same problem but without a exact solution.

By the way , closing the gate of downgrade to 5.0 is really stupid.

This didn't work for my iPhone 4.  AT&T claimed to do a network reset.  Same problem.  Dropping signal.

Valvofolife, I read your transcript. It looks like you didn't restore your phone to factory settings after the network connection was reset by AT&T? Do you want to try that then?

I have done that twice already.  I think I will wait an hour or so to see if there is anyone else comes up with a solution that feels better.

same problem with network service (iPhone 4S, T-Mobile, Czech Republic) after updating to iOS 5.0.1, tried restart, restoring network settings, restoring all settings, still can't call/text. I now have a very expensive ipod instead of a phone I paid for:(

I am giving up at least for the next few hours and putting in Airplane mode.  This is sad.

I went to Airtel (India) and got a new Micro Sim, and restored my iPhone 4s from the latest backup and it is working absolutely fine....As usual love Apple products and the support I got from the Apple Call Centre was exceptional...

Nevertheless, Apple should have the courtesy to inform users that is was best to move to a new SIM to get the iPhone 4s to work fine...
