Q: iOS 5.0.1 problems - Searching for Network and battery life still isnt great.

So I dont know if anyone else is having this problem but I upgrade to iOS 5.1 today and it seems to me that my network is being dropped A LOT today.  I know it probably doesnt help that I'm on T-Mobile with a factory unlocked iPhone 4 but it seems that before I upgraded, I was able to keep my network for a longer amount of time.  Also, I think iOS 5.1 actually made the battery life worse.  Im down to 40% and thats without any calls, a few texts and very little wifi surfing.

Reply if your having the same problem lol

    5.1 doesn't help.

Changed my sim.. Almost all the same, only finds network a little bit faster. But SIM Failure 3-4 time a day is normal.

    See it again - it's 5.1 (!!!) with f/w 1.4.0.

I have no more clues what to do. Just swipe it again and see if a cleared one will do the same.

Me too!! Now we have two different 5.0.1....

    1- build 9A405 / modem firmware 1.0.13

    2- build 9A406 / modem firmware 1.0.14

For me, this new one is even worse.

Next step? If Apple doesn't fix this really fast I'll move to Android.

Without knowing that a new modem firmware was available I did and full restore with iTunes (Pc) and it has fixed my problem with the sim card. After two full days it's still working perfect.

My sim card is 64 or 32, the carrier does even know and they were not planning to upgrade it any sooner than march 2012.

    Cheers

well it seems the new 501 build 9A406 realy fix the network problem for my iphone 4S. No occasional lost of the network signal or internet found after updated to the new build.

we'll see wether the battery life is improved or not

    Dear,Aplle!

How long should I wait?! Return the firmware 5.0! The problem with communication needs to be solved yesterday! What are you doing there?! I am already beginning to like Android! I can not use my iPhone 4S!

    Sincerely, Anton Plotnikov.

I am fortunate enough to have both a carrier store and an apple store in my area. I am not a cell phone engineer nor a software engineer but I do repair electronics to the component level for a living. After updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.0.1, the phone started getting "No Service" after phone went idle for about 15-30 minutes in multiple different locations that I have had perfect service in since iPhone launch. To get service back I would have to turn phone off/on or airplane mode on/off. Then, until phone went idle again, I had full bars of service. At times, when the phone displayed "No Service", I could make and receive calls. I contacted Apple about this problem, they said it was the SIM card. I got a new SIM card, and the problem was still there. I contacted Apple again, and this time Apple claimed it was a carrier tower problem so I had AT&T issue a service ticket in my area to check the towers. AT&T said the towers are good, it must be an Apple problem. Apple says it is because I restored phone from a backup and I have corrupted data on my computer. I did DFU restore on phone and set up as brand new phone. Problem still there. Long story short is that AT&T says that it is Apple's problem, Apple says it's carrier problem etc. I had 3 new SIM cards and 3 4S's is this 3 week period. Finally, with nobody acknowledging a problem and no solution in sight, I switched back to my old iPhone that had worked perfectly for years. Now this phone was getting a "No Service" message as well. I could turn 3G off and the phone was fine. The iPhone 4S doesn't have the option to turn off 3G. So it was more of a carrier problem than an iPhone problem in my opinion, from the steps that I had to take on my own to troubleshoot the issue because Apple nor AT&T would acknowledge an issue. This was very annoying. My question is this though: Why won't the phone automatically switch to the 2G network if 3G is not available? It seems to me, my problem was more with the carrier 3G network but I would think that the phone would go to 2G if 3G wasn't available. In my opinion, Apple also has an issue. Nobody will say anything though. People all over the world are having this problem on multiple carriers. There is one thing in common: the iPhone. I am very disappointed in the way Apple has handled all of the issues with iPhone 4S. Apple seems more concerned about the bottom line now than customer care. This will probably be my last iPhone.

Hi. I had the same issue with the signal on my new 4S which I had updated to ios 5.01 immediately when I received it. Apple exchanged my phone. They said it was an antenna problem! Got the new one with ios 5.0 and it's fine ! I'm not updating though in case it is also an ios problem.....

I have the ultimate solution!!!! Don't trust anything else you have read!

I spoke to a Genius. He says that he has to stay anonymous but has the inside scoop on the problem!! The Genius says that the problem lies in the sophistication of the iPhone 4S hardware/software combination. It gets pretty tricky and dangerous from here so please be careful. He says the only way to fix the phone is to be 3 meters off the ground. Somehow, the phone hardware knows when you are on the ground and in the air. In my case, I climbed a tree in my front yard. Once in the air, you have to stand on your left foot, holding your phone in your right hand with your middle finger on the SIM card slot. With your left pinky finger, access settings, network, reset. After that switch to your right foot and message "PLEASE HELP US APPLE" After all this my phone has been working for the past 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510 hours!

same thing here.. i went to the genius bar and they runned the diagnostics and didnt detect any problem.. i am suck with a  700€ phone that i have to reset network every hour or so..

i am very disapointed with apple.. this is not the company i gave my trust all these years.

will it became a new microsoft? somethign has definatly changed on the approach and quality of the products and service.

    quite sad about this
