Q: iOS 5.0.1 problems - Searching for Network and battery life still isnt great.

So I dont know if anyone else is having this problem but I upgrade to iOS 5.1 today and it seems to me that my network is being dropped A LOT today.  I know it probably doesnt help that I'm on T-Mobile with a factory unlocked iPhone 4 but it seems that before I upgraded, I was able to keep my network for a longer amount of time.  Also, I think iOS 5.1 actually made the battery life worse.  Im down to 40% and thats without any calls, a few texts and very little wifi surfing.

Reply if your having the same problem lol

I've been noticing the same problem, I have an iPad 1 WiFi and the battery is lasting the half as it used to. However, I noticed that the battery of my my iPhone 4S is lasting more. I would like a solution for my battery issue with the iPad as fast as possible.

HUGE, HUGE, HUGE problem with iPhone 4s antenna with iOS5.1 that did not exist with 5.0.1  WiFi drops every 30 seconds, 4G (shmore G) worthless - will transfer 0bits of data now. Not AT&T's issue as I also have a Blackberry on the same account - works fine, no data transfer or speed problems.  Gotta figure out how to go back to 5.0.1 until Apple figures this out and fixes it.

I'm using an iPhone 4 GSM model, and I find that the internet takes longer to load sometimes, and the battery life does seem a bit on the short side. But I also found out that my phone had sent an older text (about 3 days old) to someone instead of the one I just typed. This caused a lot of confusion in the conversation.

On a side not, I also don't find the new camera button on the homescreen to be a) helpful or b) attractive. It looks horrible.

    FACETIME and iMessage

    may drain your battery.

I think I solved mine. The battery lasts way longer now. Here is what I have done.

I updated iOS 5.1 and did couple of hard boot and I had an issue with notification service. So I restored my backup. During the process, iTunes downloaded iOS 5.1 again and install it with the application I had previously. Then, I had the battery problem.

I read it somewhere that there is a bug, "waiting for activation" with Facetime and iMessage so I turned them off > on (it asks your account details) > off again. Couple of days later, I tried to turn this on and off again and it did not ask me to login the server.

It seems that the services for Facetime and iMessage kept trying to connect the server for the activation without account details and causes the battery problem.

    Hope this help some people.

    I live in Arkansas, USA.

My battery has died down to 55%, and I have barely text/called/searched the web. My signal is also coming & going. The 5.1 update also took the word Verizon from my screen at the top.

Since I upgraded to IOS 5.1 on Monday this week my IPhone 4S spends more time not working than working.

It is constantly searching for a network.

I did not upgrade my wife's IPhone 4S and it still works perfectly.

What are Apple going to do about this?

Any way I can go back to the previous version of IOS 5 on my 4S?

I have simular problems with my Iphone 4 16. It hasnt been working good since i updated to 5.1 about a week ago. No 3g network at all. I updated my wifes Iphone 4 with the same carrier, no problems at all. its quite annoying not being able to use the iphone for phone calls.

    Apple: fix this!!!!

Loss of 3g is more than likely to be due to your APN settings being wiped during the upgrade.

You'll need to reset your Netowrk Connection and the re-enter your carrier's APN setting.

For 3g to work, it needs an APN.

On the old iPhone 3, the APN can be set under the Settings / Cellular Data tab and on the iPad it is under Settings / Mobile Data.

However, on the iPhone 4 this tab is no longer available (for reasons I have been unable to fathom) and it is thus a bit harder for the user to reset.

I would first try resetting your Network Connection to see if that cures the problem = Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.

When the phone boots up it should find your network from the information stored on your SIM card.

If 3g is still missing, one way around the problem is to download a copy of the "iPhone Configuration Utility" and create a new "Configuration Profile". You'll need to connect your iPhone to your Mac via its USB cable.

Run the Configuration Utility and in the left window pane, click on Configuration profiles.

Then click on the Icon with the + symbol in the top left corner to make a new one.

Give the profile a name and scroll down to the bottom option "APN" in the right pane.

Enter the APN setting for your carrier, you can get this from your carrier, their website sometimes or google it.

Then click on "install" to send it to your iPhone. You will also need to accept it on the iPhone (follow the prompts).

    That worked for me.

PS: lots of Apps on the iPhone use location services for ads (in many free games), updating info (weather & stocks etc) and tracking. If your 3g is not working, these will keep trying to connect and probably run your battery down pretty quickly. Try turning Location Services off to see if battery life improves.

I had the same problem with the network, got a brand new sim since than am not having any network issue. Whenever, I turned it off and back on again my phone goes automatically on 3g network and I have to disable manually. But, I've noticed that my facebook and email notification doesn't work nor it has any sort of sound. Also, too many dropped calls. I bought it after my galaxy s2 died after just 6 months of using it. Not happy with the 4s, my wifes 3gs has no issues at all.

If you disable the 3g works great, but I still get too many dropped calls. I've no issue with the battery, I get easily two days.
