Why Does iTunes Sync Genius Data Every time Now?
My iPhone 4s seems to sync my genious data every single time I connect it to my MAC?
My 3gs did not do this, is there a simple fix?
iPhone 4, iOS 5

Bump
I have an iPhone 3GS and it has started doing this (I think) since I updated to the latest release of iTunes 10.5. It always seems to synce the same number (genius data - 285) .Weird
Yes I think it started at 10.5, but I don't know for sure. However it does continue to sync a bunch of genious data despite me not adding or changing anything.
Every time I sync it re-syncs 2979 Genius items. TAKES FOREVER! I can't find an answer anywhere. YO, APPLE! Answer please!
I was experiencing the same problem everytime I sync my phone or iPad. To stop Genius data from sycning, I turned off the Genius by going to iTunes/Store/turn off Genius. I'm not a big user of the Genius suggestions so its no big deal for me not to have the Genius running. Turning off the Genius does convert Genius playlists to regular playlists. If you are a fan of Genius, this may not be the best option for you. Turning off the Genius did solve the problem for me.
Very annoying indeed....BUMP
I read elsewhere that deleting Voice Memos solves this problem. I did that, and the problem was temporarily solved...until I recorded more Voice Memos. Some of these I need to keep. Maybe I'll get around to converting them to "Music" or Audiobook" files, but for now I need them kept as Memos. So I'm suffering again.
Apple please fix this!
I do not use Voice Memos and have none at all yet I still have this annoying sync issue.

My guess, and this is only an educated guess having majored in machine learning, is that apple is constantly updating their genius library as more people turn on genius or itunes match. Therefore, Apple's genius data for you is not a constant – it is constantly evolving to take on better and newer data and pairwise recommendations.
As such, iTunes has new associations for songs you have, and therefore must copy these associations (in ML terms, these would be called "models") to bring you the freshest possible genius behavior.
This is how I rationalize, at least to myself, the constant syncing and re-syncing of genius data. This is genius improving.
Well, I don't thinks so. My iTunes has synced genius data for the same 37 songs everytime I plugged my iPod this week and Genius is supposed to update every week so there shouldn't be any new data yet. And still - why only for the same set of songs? To me it seems as it forgot it synced the data and unnecessarily repeats the process. (I have listened to hundreds of songs those days...)
Having the same problem with my iPod touch 4G (was IOS 5.0.1, now as of today 5.1) with iTunes 10.5.3 and OS 10.6.8. Same freaking 306 songs every time. Started a few months ago sometime after updating I believe to either iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1, can't recall. Was previously some much larger number for a while and then after trying a few things like turning genius off and on it become the same 305 songs and then switched somewhere along the way to 306. I like using genius and so don't want to turn it off completely. Help please Apple.
I have the same issue.
Every sync with my iPad results in a final Genius data sync... I lived with it when it was 97 items (the same number every time), but today that number changed to 2,700+ items (and I have no idea what triggered that change)! I only have 3,800 items in my entire iTunes library, so that's the majority of it...
It took a couple of minutes longer to sync as a result. I turned off Genius in the Store menu as suggested, and it didn't sync that data the next time I synced. But I like and use the Genius feature.
Does this mean I'll have to lose it? There's no actual fix, just this workaround?
OS X 10.6.8 + iTunes 10.6.1... iPad v01 + iOS 5.1.1...
Thanks.
Clcik "Store". Turn off iTuners Match. Right click on Genius in iTunes and choose "open in new window". Choose "Store" and the option to stop Genius will be present.
I don't use iTunes Match, and I don't want to stop genius. I want to use genius and not have it sync thousands of songs each time! That's not too much to ask.
