The iPhone 4s 5.1.0 update WORKS !!!!!!!! Yea !!!!! I got my phone back !!!!!!
Ok...just thought I would share what and how I perfomed the update 5.1.0 and maybe it will help someone else.
I bought my 4s new from verizon the day it came out and had absolutely NO problems with the battery for weeks (and probably would have continued to not have any). I am a person who loves the have the "newest" or "best" so that being said when I discovered the first update 5.0 of course without any hesitancy I downloaded it because of Apple's good reputation. Let me just add I have been an Android user from day 1 ever since the first Motorola Droid. Anyway this was my very first iPhone and after a few days of getting use to it I was loving it more and more!! Until like I said I downloaded the update 5.0 and then my phone would get really really hot, like uncomfortable to hold :-/ Along with the battery only lasting around 9 hours. So needless to say I started "Burning the Midnight Oil" so to speak looking for a way to go back and just get what I use to have, I hoped that I could do a "Restore" back to original way it was when I bought it and I couldn't.
So now begins watching the internet and forum and anything else out there that gave me a glimmer of hope that the iPhone that I was loving so much was no more. So as you all know here came the 5.0.1 update and a lot of hope...nothing. Then came build # 5.0.1 (9A406) and a lot of hope on my part...nothing.
So here we are 6-7 months later and update 5.1.0 is released and may I say FINALLY !!!! Thank you Apple !!!!
And what do you know it WORKS too! I GOT MY PHONE BACK !!!! So let me tell you what I did and maybe it will help you.
1) Before I did anything (and because of trying everything under the sun) I deleted (only on my phone) my iCloud account and selected "delete information on phone" as well.
2) I did a hard reset where you hold the "home" button and the "lock" button at top, you have to hold these at the same time and keep holding until the Apple logo appears.
3)Now to the good stuff...
I chose to NOT do the OTA update I wanted to do the update through iTunes. So I did a backup (just incase) and then from the "Summary" tab clicked Check for Updates or Update. After about 40 mins. of downloading and the phone re-booting itself it was working again.
4) Then immediately I did another hard reset (holding both buttons) and then after the phone picked up service and everthing was ready I did the last step which was...
5) Soft reset which just held down the "Home" button and when the red slide power off appeared slid it to the right and let the phone actually power off.
6) Turn the phone back on and you're set !!!!!!
I charged my phone last night and unpluged it when I got up at 3:50 AM this morning and it is now 2:50 PM and I still have 71% (that didn't happen before) matter a fact my battery bar indicator didn't even move for 7 hours.
Also, let me mention that I am out of town working in a very poor signal area 5 miles from the state line so my phone is constantly fighting which tower to use or get its signal from. So I feel that at home where my signal is great the results will be MUCH better!
Well good luck and I hope this really helps you get your iPhone back.
