iOS 5.0.1 - Made my iPhone 4S battery performance worse!

I upgraded my iphone 4S to the 5.0.1 release today. However, I've noticed that my battery life has actually gotten worse since I upgrade. For example, I've been home for approximately 30 minutes and my battery has gone down in 8%. In the 30 minutes, I had a 30 second phone call and sent 3 text messages. I am connected to our wi-fi (which is a strong connection) and I have re-started my phone.

Please let me know if anyone else is having any issues!?!!?

Apple - Can you please fix the iphone 4s battery issues? I might as well go get a 4g android phone if the battery life remains this poor.

Yes AFTER trying the reset. Clearly if it changed (worse) after iOS5.1 then its not hardware but a software issue. so the reset setting process previously mentioned first then if no help a restore from iTunes may help. THEN a vist to Apple Genius bar perhaps.

This is NOT normal behaviour. Take it to an Apple store, or call them.

I am currently on iOS 5.0.1 and to be honest I got 18h since least charge and 8h of usage..I am idd at 5% but considering that i use push mail location service like 12-14h of wi-fi connection and have several apps running in background and I had like this 3h plus talk 1h of infinity blade 2 music for like 2h and plus mail while talking sms while talking screen was up 6h out of those 8 I got to say I consider myself lucky tho got to mention icloud is off.I am not really planing on updateing but have to say you guys who have problems some of you maybe have it hardware or softweare but i am sure some have it cuz of them...Either 2 many apps running in background either all setting are on or brithness at full

P.S:Gps+100% brightness+3g= tops of 4-5h of usage even with the best phone in the world so check those setting also iCloud eats up much

The iPhone 4s 5.1.0 update WORKS !!!!!!!! Yea !!!!! I got my phone back !!!!!!

Ok...just thought I would share what and how I perfomed the update 5.1.0 and maybe it will help someone else.

I bought my 4s new from verizon the day it came out and had absolutely NO problems with the battery for weeks (and probably would have continued to not have any). I am a person who loves the have the "newest" or "best" so that being said when I discovered the first update 5.0 of course without any hesitancy I downloaded it because of Apple's good reputation. Let me just add I have been an Android user from day 1 ever since the first Motorola Droid. Anyway this was my very first iPhone and after a few days of getting use to it I was loving it more and more!! Until like I said I downloaded the update 5.0 and then my phone would get really really hot, like uncomfortable to hold :-/ Along with the battery only lasting around 9 hours. So needless to say I started "Burning the Midnight Oil" so to speak looking for a way to go back and just get what I use to have, I hoped that I could do a "Restore" back to original way it was when I bought it and I couldn't.

So now begins watching the internet and forum and anything else out there that gave me a glimmer of hope that the iPhone that I was loving so much was no more. So as you all know here came the 5.0.1 update and a lot of hope...nothing. Then came build # 5.0.1 (9A406) and a lot of hope on my part...nothing.

So here we are 6-7 months later and update 5.1.0 is released and may I say FINALLY !!!! Thank you Apple !!!!

And what do you know it WORKS too! I GOT MY PHONE BACK !!!! So let me tell you what I did and maybe it will help you.

1) Before I did anything (and because of trying everything under the sun) I deleted (only on my phone) my iCloud account and selected "delete information on phone" as well.

2) I did a hard reset where you hold the "home" button and the "lock" button at top, you have to hold these at the same time and keep holding until the Apple logo appears.

3)Now to the good stuff...

I chose to NOT do the OTA update I wanted to do the update through iTunes. So I did a backup (just incase) and then from the "Summary" tab clicked Check for Updates or Update. After about 40 mins. of downloading and the phone re-booting itself it was working again.

4) Then immediately I did another hard reset (holding both buttons) and then after the phone picked up service and everthing was ready I did the last step which was...

5) Soft reset which just held down the "Home" button and when the red slide power off appeared slid it to the right and let the phone actually power off.

6) Turn the phone back on and you're set !!!!!!

I charged my phone last night and unpluged it when I got up at 3:50 AM this morning and it is now 2:50 PM and I still have 71% (that didn't happen before) matter a fact my battery bar indicator didn't even move for 7 hours.

Also, let me mention that I am out of town working in a very poor signal area 5 miles from the state line so my phone is constantly fighting which tower to use or get its signal from. So I feel that at home where my signal is great the results will be MUCH better!

Well good luck and I hope this really helps you get your iPhone back.

The new 5.1 update has made my phone battery worse too!

Before the update my Iphone 4s was able to last a day on a full charge, now after 5.1 update it's draining battery at a faster rate. I lost 35% over a 6 hour period with some light usage. Looks like it wont' last me for a full day now. I did resetting both Network settings and reset the phone settings too. It didn't work.

I was happy with my phone battery before, but the new update has made it worse and I'm very upset! why is Apple making things complicated?

The new 5.1 update didn't solve my problem either. My issue is that my iPhone 4S doesn't go to standby mode. Usage and standby times are equal... "Käyttö" = "Usage", "Valmiudessa" = "Standby"

I managed to fix this problem in 5.01 with manually adujusting the time setting into future, which may have disabled some background tasks, but now even this trick doesn't work. So now I'm able to use my phone about 17 hours. With previous version I was able to use it about two days.

Apple, please do something. You are able to create amazing products, so I doubt you are not able to solve these kinds of relative simple issues...

Thank you!

I find this all really really sad! This is my first IPhone and I've had nothing but problems with it. With all the complaints about the battery it's BEYOND time Apple does something about it. It should NOT be so hard....if Apple is so wonderful then I would think they would make things easy for people. I just don't get it.My battery still ***** and I still have greyed out songs....such a wonderful phone.I do love the camera that's about it.................

The same situation here. After upgrading my 4S to IOS 5.1 my battery is draining terrific. With my standard use I finish the day with 20/30% left. But now early in the afternoon I´m on 20%! I notice that the location services is working more. I have to turn off location service for Applitations that before the upgrade worked fine.Apple we need a fix ASAP

I'm currently not able to update my iPhone 4s to 5.1. Considering most of the above posts (except for that of "ilovemyfamily" I guess this is a GOOD thing.

Upon asking for more information, I get the page "http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275", whichi is

iOS: Resolving update and restore alert messages

I have latest Mac OS, latest iTunes (just updated it before 5.1), no other USB devices attached and am logged in as administrator (well, as the only user I have besides administrator, but with full privileges.) Will try to restart and login as "administrator" if possible and try again.

Or, maybe I shouldn't?
