Mar 9, 2012 7:50 AM in response to brendonfromnullby EA,I fully charged my phone after the update. Then used the phone normally as I would on regular days. I've never seen my charge drop below 60-70% at the end of my work day before the update. After the update, it dropped to below 50% at the end of my day.
In fact I again fully charged it last night. Then unplugged it in the morning. After about 3 hours of standby I've already dropped 10%. And yes I've done a hard reset of my phone.
Is there a way to go back to iOS 5.0.1 so I can test if my battery life improves again?

Mar 9, 2012 7:52 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby SmogTM,I think I solved the battery problem on my i4. I fully charged it and then did a hard reset (hold the home and power buttons till it shuts down). Now I have used my phone for 2 hours and my battery is still 100%. Hope this helps you guys too.

Mar 9, 2012 7:57 AM in response to Unshavenby yaarab,Guys...trust me...try my method which I posted today to user Wijanarka. Here it is again for those who are still looking for solutions :
To all you guys out there who have iOS 5.1 battery issues, here's my findings after an upgrade from 5.0.1 yesterday morning.
With all the notifications / locations services off, my battery drained quicker. All I had on was the 3G and wifi on. With a little trail and error I have found that once you are home in your own wifi range, then turn off the 3G and switch wifi on. When you are out then do the opposite i.e turn off the wifi and turn on 3G. Battery life improves dramtically but with both 3G and wifi on all the time, battery drains much faster. Give it a try and post your comments.

Mar 9, 2012 8:07 AM in response to yaarabby Applefoxfan,
Sorry that's lame. I don't want to have to turn stuff on and off just to extend batt life. My batt on 5.1 with 4S is a lot worse as MANY have complained about. How is it a fix makes something worse? Cmon apple! -

Mar 9, 2012 8:28 AM in response to yaarabby nbercasio,I haven't change anything except installing the 5.1 upgrade and my battery is draining quite fast. I always leave my Wifi on and 3G so when I come to the office and at home, my phone will connect to the Wifi automatically.
So I am sorry to say but that is not a solution but an inconvenient work around switching wifi on and off.
Trying SmogTM's solution now...

Mar 9, 2012 8:38 AM in response to nbercasioby yaarab,I know that it is not an ideal solution to turn on/off wifi/3G but it hardly takes 5sec to do that. All the best.

Mar 9, 2012 8:40 AM in response to Applefoxfanby Applefoxfan,Holy cow, this is horrible. Two conf calls this AM for work, each 1 hour long. Batt life went from 100%, to 80%, now 60% after two hours of use. Definitely worse than before.
4S, wifi off, 3G on but not on push, only fetch every 15 min. This is horrible!

Mar 9, 2012 8:48 AM in response to yaarabby dkalchev,The iPhone does not work that way. Here is how it works:
If you have enabled Cellular Data, then your phone will use the cellular networks for Internet access. If you have 3G network and 3G enabled, it will use that, if not, it will use EDGE. As soon as your iPhone connects to an WiFi network it will disable use of Cellular Data for Internet -- without you having to switch it off manually.
This means, that if you are often in WiFi coverage, you are better off to leave WiFi switched on at all time, but disable "Ask to join networks". You will get better battery time, than if you disable WiFi in such situations.
If you have to disable 3G in order to have better battery life, it means you have bad 3G network coverage. When you disable 3G, you disable both the 3G usage for voice (always connected to the network) and the 3G usage for data (disabled as soon as your iPhone connects to an WiFi network). So.. if your network allows it, you will be better to just switch 3G off, unless you need really high speed Internet access (EDGE goes up to around 200 Kbps - plenty for most mobile uses anyway).

Mar 9, 2012 9:09 AM in response to dkalchevby wack,I thought this update would be able to solve the battery issue, but I am finding my battery life to be worse!!
It seems soo wrong to have to disable/turn off functions to extend the performance!
When Apple announced the Iphone 4s and touted the stats, did they say "you can't use a majority of the functions this phone is capable of to obtain these stats"??
Maybe it is the solar flares to blame?
If I purchased the phone with the AppleCare plus (or whatever it is called) in late Oct 2011 will I be eligible for a replacement?
p.s. I have done a reset and am now draining battery to 0% to do a full charge cycle.

Mar 9, 2012 9:11 AM in response to Applefoxfanby CampL,Two 1-hour calls draining 20% seems on par with Apple's claim of 8 hours talk time on 3G (14 hours on 2G, depending on which one you are on). Not sure what the number should be if on WIFI, since regulat phone call goes through the baseband instead of WIFI anyway (unless you use VoIP app for the conference call). I got the impression somewhere that Apple's goal for iOS 5.1 would be 10-hour of regular usage, and 200-hr 'standby' (actually idling the phone and not do anything with it, NOT the same as the Stand By time under Setting>General>Usage)

Mar 9, 2012 9:27 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby jgonzo5154,I had this problem with my iPhone 4 (not 4S). My phone wold have +50% battery when I went to bed and in the morning it would be completely dead. I always made sure to turn off all apps. I finally just backed-up my data and did a restore as a new phone. Works great now! Battery lasts 3-4 days with normal use.
