Mar 10, 2012 3:11 AM in response to Indie-daby AngiBi,try the following (usually there seems to be a problem with the accounts - at least it was for me. it happened to me twice now, first when I upgraded to 4.1. and now again when I updated to 5.1).
first try a soft reset: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (don't let it go before that). If his doesn't help, make sure you export you save your contacts (not from your iphone but from a synced source if you have them synced) and then deinstall your accounts and reinstall them. For google accounts don't forget to sync your google calenders with m.google.sync on your iphone (annoying last step which I always forget). Please post if it worked.

Mar 10, 2012 3:20 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby AngiBi,I had the same issues twice (first with 4.1. now with 5.1). I have a 3gs. I already posted my soution earlier in this post. Try first a Soft reset as aleready mentioned in other threads (didn't solve the problem for me). Then uninstll your accounts (after saving your contacts if necessary) and reinstall them. Soft reset and go (sync google calenders again wih m.google.sync as the sync may be restored).

Mar 10, 2012 4:25 AM in response to AngiBiby Timo Kaleva,iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1, battery/standby problem is still on... With a very light usage battery lasts about 19 hours, which is not what I expected when I bought this phone. This time the phone was about 1 hour in light use and 18 hours in sleep. I have been waiting for the solution since 5.01 update..
This is not a matter of some particular application, wifi, 3G or other build in functionality... I'm a technical person and I have tried everything. But I bought an Apple product because I don't want to try to fix my devices.. This is a matter of Apple getting the iPhone working! Apple is responsible of user experience because of it's closed system, and I really want Apple to do something to this issue!!! Thank you!

Mar 10, 2012 4:29 AM in response to Timo Kalevaby dkalchev,It is apparent from the picture you posted, that your phone has 18 hours of Usage. "Technical persons" are usually able to read...
Since you have exatly the same Usage as you have Standby, it is also obvious that you have something running on your phone at all time. You need to get rid of that junk application or setting. Start with "Reset All Settings".
By the way, you are posting your demands here to Apple products users, not to Apple. You need to send them feedback, if you want Apple to know about your problem.

Mar 10, 2012 4:49 AM in response to dkalchevby Renee273,I'm sure it's called an APPLE iPhone and not a Renée iPhone. I didn't make the thing and this battery issue isn't only my problem. I've followed all the recommended steps to see if I can find what's draining the battery. And this isn't my first iPhone and I've not had this problem before even though I've got the same apps. (having restored from my previous handsets backup).
Also why would I leave the phone plugged in when it's charged? On standby a phone should typically stay charged with very little battery loss. I shouldn't HAVE to keep my phone plugged in to use it.
Good for you that you have no problems but we're not all morons that don't know how to use a phone.

18 hours 38 minutes is almost 19 hours to me. Grow up.

I have tried this already. The issue is not about the downloaded applications or wrong settings.

Mar 10, 2012 5:16 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby Renee273,I've turned off and disabled everything even wifi and cell data to get my CPU to 10-20%.
Obviously I can't use it like this but turning on either my wifi or cell data instantly shoots it up to 70%.

Mar 10, 2012 5:17 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby Renee273,Oh and after 5.1 upgrade I don't have to 3G enable option back. I'm in the UK

Mar 10, 2012 5:26 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby walterfromzürich,My new iPhone 4s frustrates me more than all the Apple products put together in the past 20 years. It really $ucks and Apple doesn't do anything about it. The update to iOS 5.1 didn't help at all. The battery of my previous 3G lasted up to one week with normal use and this new iPhone doesn't last much more than 2 days even when using it less than the old 3G and turning of SIRI, WiFi, push mail and all the rest of the features that make a smart phone attractive to the average user.
What's going on at Apple? "Antennagate" was nothing compared to this battery issue and Apple seems to sleep and not care about it at all. Is this already the beginning of the expected decline of this company after S. J. has passed away so early?

The iPhone 4S is rated 200 hours standby on WiFi. If you leave it off the charger overnight, for say 10 hours, then you are 5% back in the morning, at least. You can either have fully charged phone in the morning or not. It's your personal choice, of course. Just don't blame anyone else for the choices you make.
By the way, my iPhone 4S too, when I got it from the store had terrible battery life. I just applied some common sense, did a software reset and the thing "miraciously" started behaving. Didn't even call Apple and certainly didn't exchange it three times a week in hopes that will fix something.

Good. So I publicly say, that for you this is 19 hours.
Does this resolve your iPhone battery problem?

Mar 10, 2012 5:33 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby jgonzo5154,I highly recommend doing a RESTORE and set up as a new phone. Its a pain in the behind to add everything back, but It worked perfectly for me. My phone will now hold a charge for 3-4 days with "normal" usage, where before, it would completely drain overnight from 100% charge. Make sure to backup all your data and pictures before doing this.

Mar 10, 2012 6:27 AM in response to dkalchevby Renee273,Right and I was more then 5% so what's your point?
According to your maths my battery should have been at 95% still. But it was at 20%! So whether I left the phone off charge at night really isn't the issue is it. With no usage there should have been very little loss as you said BUT that's not the case.
I've done all the resets and restores so let's see what happens

Mar 10, 2012 7:15 AM in response to jgonzo5154by nyhunter77,Try this as well, my phone seems to only be using more power as much as to leave me with 10 to 15 % less power at the end of the day.
1. Watch those icons in the right upper corner, I use bluetooth all the time which doesn't seem to lower battery life but some apps like intrix traffic and this morning google+ or twitter, had a long time before the gps turned off, in fact I killed them both in order to stop the gps usage. I'm guessing GPS is wakko in this new update.
2. If u see any abnormal usage or if battery is draining, kill all the apps and shut off your phone and restart it. Don't perform the soft reset with the power and home buttons unless it's the last resort, I've found sometimes that resets all your sounds and then you'll have to change all your sound indicators again. Happened to me once last week.
Restores are a pain, that may be the only way but I'd put it off as long as you can stand it. I hope these tips will work for u guys, my drainage isn't too much worse but it's annoying. I plan to give it another few days and see if the new iOS has to "learn" our habits as some Os's seem to have to do. All the updates in the past seem to suck power the first few days for some reason and then normalize.
