Nov 14, 2011 9:30 AM in response to ches.oneby mtbeaulieu,If your phone can't reach a 100% charge, I would think that is a hardware issue. I would backup your phone at home and go to Apple and see if you can get a replacement (if it is under warranty)

Nov 15, 2011 5:49 PM in response to mtbeaulieuby manzana grande,All that are having battery problems try deleting all apps listed in the multitask bar. Doubleclick the home button, mash one of the icons in the bar that pops up at the bottom of the screen until you get the remove symbol, and delete all the apps in that list. It improved my battery life by 3-4 times. From 5-6%/hour loss, doing nothing, to about 1%.

Nov 15, 2011 6:58 PM in response to mtbeaulieuby manzana grande,Seems I found the complaints thread. I looked back at the posts and almost no one has posted in this thread any solutions or workarounds. Help each other out instead of complaining.
I would love to know if killing the apps listed in the multitaskbar helps your battery life. It helped mine quite a lot.

Nov 15, 2011 7:06 PM in response to manzana grandeby Tony Carreon,i did that yesterday and yes it helps until you start using apps... the only way to fix it is for apple to take action. everyone that has this issue should file a bug report ( http://bugreport.apple.com ).

Nov 15, 2011 7:17 PM in response to Tony Carreonby manzana grande,I keep my multitask bar cleaned out. I've tested it with the timer and I can set a time, clean the icon out of the multitask bar, and the timer still sounds the alarm at the designated time, or if I open the timer, it is still counting down. Thus it really doesn't seem to kill the process. But in any case by keeping this task bar cleaned out it helps on my 4S.
And I agree, all should file a bug if they have found something new.

Nov 15, 2011 7:22 PM in response to manzana grandeby davidch,Go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1:
1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)
2. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)
3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd
4. Fully discharge battery (tilll it shuts off with the spinning wheel)
5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)
In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases. It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple. Good Luck!

But all of your apps' data will be gone, which makes this often repeated suggestion incredibly inconvenient for many.

Nov 16, 2011 4:14 PM in response to mtbeaulieuby DocHemlock,Hi all,
After reading this thread it seems obvious that none of you have considered how much iOS 5 is doing in the background.
I ran iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 for the entirety of the beta and the battery drainage hasn't changed one bit.
Two MAJOR factors that I noticed however is that if you set "location reminders" the gps chip in the phone is constantly running from the moment you set it, also I noticed that iOS 5 keeps the phones gps chip on when the date and time is set to "set automatically.
My iPhone 4 used to last just under a day of moderate usage, now I've stopped using location based reminders and turned off auto location for the time and date it will generally last at least 2 full days of moderate to heavy usage.
I've tried and tested this now on my iPhone, brothers and my iPad (which went from lasting one day with auto location on to 5 days with it off) try it and see if it makes a difference.

Nov 16, 2011 6:16 PM in response to DocHemlockby Tony Carreon, doc:
you've obviously missed the point where people did not have an issue with iOS 5. but then iOS 5.0.1 introduced the battery "problem" - myself included. i also ran beta versions of iOS and did not have this issue on my older iPhones. my boyfriend has an iPhone 4s (as do I) and does not have this problem on iOS 5.0. both phones were purchased at the exact same time (i was #4 in line at the AT&T store when it opened on Oct. 7). also the reports are that apple is desperately working on 5.0.2 to "fix" the issue they "fixed" with 5.0.1...
i'm perfectly happy to live with the phone the way it is until 5.0.2 and hopefully it's fixed. but you can't say that because you don't have the problem then no one else does, nor can you suggest that the "fix" is to turn off highly-touted and major features of the product. my car gets great gas mileage until i decide to drive it...

Nov 17, 2011 12:52 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby Slow K,No problems with battery life after uppgrading to iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone4 with Telia Sweden.
Don´t know if that is because I turned of the automatic timezone or because I uppgraded to the iOS5.0.1.
I did have problems with iOS5 loosing network or with battery life , and before that no problems.

My apologies, I was trying to generalise iOS 5 and it's update.
I agree that with every feature turned on the battery life with iOS 5.0.1 is a lot worse than iOS 5, though again turning the automatic time zone feature off all but gets rid of the fast drain.
Tony; I can see your point with regards to why you turn off features which are meant to be the cornerstone of the iOS, however I think you'll agree, unless you travel a lot why do you want the GPS chip of the phone constantly running to check your in the correct time zone?

Nov 17, 2011 1:27 AM in response to mtbeaulieuby killhippie,I called Apple, yesterday. They are saying they are aware of bugs in 5.0.1 effecting some phone. I had a call later that day asking about my useage and would I put a monitor from Apple on my phone for 24 hours so they can collect logs. I was told in the mean time, try, and no this is not a fix...try to let your phone drain right down, till it turns off, then turn it on again and use it till it shuts down again, then charge for as long as you can. This has helped one of the engineers 4S phones. Oddly I reinstalled 5.0.1 yesterday and now my battery is not draining quite so fast, but there are bugs, time zone support was shoing in my Calendar even though it is switched off, I had to turn it on and off to fix that. It seems that the OS gets corrupt somehow, but who knows, you could wave burning sage over the phone under the full moon right as a fix, its getting silly, but they are hoping to get new software out in the next few weeks. I also turned off send diagnostics as I noticed it was creating two logs per minute about my wifi latency, every minute of every day, so all the awdd logs were out of control. They also know they are not being deleted in some phones and are working on that too. Hope that helps.
