Q: iOS 5.0.1 - Made my iPhone 4S battery performance worse!

I upgraded my iphone 4S to the 5.0.1 release today. However, I've noticed that my battery life has actually gotten worse since I upgrade. For example, I've been home for approximately 30 minutes and my battery has gone down in 8%. In the 30 minutes, I had a 30 second phone call and sent 3 text messages. I am connected to our wi-fi (which is a strong connection) and I have re-started my phone.

Please let me know if anyone else is having any issues!?!!?

Apple - Can you please fix the iphone 4s battery issues? I might as well go get a 4g android phone if the battery life remains this poor.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5, Verizon

Same here, the 5.0.1 did nothing but worsen the battery issues for me. Apply better do something soon otherwise I'm going to return the iphone 4s.

i have iphone 4s.  After the upgrade, i have noticed significant improvement on the battery life.  The battery life now lasts for 2 full days from less than one day before the upgrade.

    Thanks Apple.

It seems weird that some people who have updated to 5.0.1 the battery is working good now and others it isn't. My situation might be unique b/c I too had great results from the update but just this weekend my phone started doing the same thing that was happening before. The usage is close to the standby even if the phone isn't in use and all programs are closed. Come awn apple!!!! This is very frustrating especially to loyal customers... Maybe give us something for being so patient!!!

Some week s ago  i wrote that i fiexed my battery problems using the things  that DAVIDCH told here.

Since last sunday, my iPhone strikes back and (I didnt changes anything) kills the battery faster than ever !

Maybe i should use smoke signals again ....

I finally fixed the Iphone 4s. Don't know how long it will last but hopefully till the next update that should come out in a couple weeks. I had to restore my phone and reinstall the software 3 times. 3rd times the charm. After everything was restored and all of my apps were reinstalled I left it plugged into the computer and did a soft restart. Please note that the phone was kept plugged in. Crossing my fingers this sticks for a couple more weeks.

    ... I guess I found the error.

The only thing I changed was the installing of  the WIKIPEDIA-App on saturday;  and the loss of energy was huge.

Today I removed the app, fully reload the battery and now it seems to be good again...

Dont know what the App is doing in the background, but i won't install it again !

    Cheers, Mik

Thanks for the update. I would bet there are other apps that do it as well. Wonder if all the folks saying 5.0.1 didnt help battery are using it as default from Apple or if they have apps installed like this one?  Test it as default out of box and see how battery is. Then add apps back. Hmm may be worth investigating.

My battery problem comes and goes.  some days it seems as though I won't get through the day (10% drain every hour) and other days, I can last 3 days with moderate usage before it dies.  I'm in the habit of always closing all unused apps, I don't have many location services on, and most importantly, I have not changed a single setting from a good battery day to a bad battery day.  I don't know what to do to pin point the issue here.  APPLE PLEASE HELP.  I may just have to go back to a blackberry if this continues.

Certain apps seem to drain batttery.  On my phone the apps that require or look for location are the worst.  Even if the location is turned off for the app it seems to drain battery.

I removed two apps that require or look for location and my battery life has improved greatly.

    flemming:

5.0.1 is NOT beta. it was released on Nov. 10.

additionally, apple has stated they realize 5.0.1 did NOT fix all of the battery issues...

“The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices,” the company said in a statement given to AllThingsD. “We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

**EDIT** whoops. i guess I should read posts before replying. flemming was not talking about 5.0.1, but 5.1. my apologies.

restore it first.. before you do the downgrade. i've done the downgrade procedure ever since iOS 4.x with my ipod touch and iphone and it always worked.
