Iphone 4s Battery life WORSE with upgrade. Anyone else seeing same?
I upgraded my new iPhone 4s today and now my battery life is so much worse. I can literally watch it drain by the minute. Is anyone else experiencing this?
iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1

Battery life is worse after I updated to ios 5. I wish I hadn't done the upgrade because I thought I was having problems before and this just shows me I really wasn't. Now I am getting the 10% percent per hour drain without even using the phone and I did the 12 steps to reduce the battery usage including the background apps and turning off siri raise to speak etc.
me too, wish I hadn't done the upgrade. I could have tolerated it before and now it is really bad. Draining 10% an hour or even more when I haven't even used it.
Yes Apple pleae fix your fix....it is WORSE !!!!!!!! I loved the phone but not now
yes I have the same problem... I even have one of those cases with rechargeable batteries and still won't last 24 hours with both batteries... I just unplugged the phone 4 hours ago and the phone battery is around 20% now...
Davidch suggestion is below
No, you do NOT want to do a restore. Carefully, read my post throughout the thread especially the first few. You want to "reset all settings" and setup "as new phone". All your apps, mail, and data will still be there as before. Re-adjust your screen brightness where you want, wallpaper, etc and I still recommend turning off general -> location -> system -> timezone (and iAd). Then use your phone until it is fully discharged and recharge it overnight
I trying it now waiting for battery to drain now left 1% will update after full recharge
Ash,
I wasn't going to continue to repeat myself over and over on this thread but your post is the classic on this topic.
First if you allow the extreme battery drain to continue your are going to kill your iPhone battery and your battery pack. Also if you are using the "Case Type" battery extender it makes the problem worse because the phone will tend to get hotter because of the case which parents the phone from breathing... taking advantage of being able to radiate off the heat. OK so much for that!!!
You have the classic hung background function, whatever gets hung in some active mode will kill your batter, make the phone get much warmer than it should and you will lose battery power even when it is just sitting there in standby mode.
OK here is the fixes delete your email accounts, power off the phone and back on then MANUALLY restore you email accounts. If that does not correct the problem, albeit it generally does, try the restore as new with out using the restore from a backup (the backup may bring the problem back). Yes - I know "restore as new" and manually adding back email and a few application setup parameters is a bit of a pain - But your choice is to replace your phone and battery pack if you allow the excessive battery drain to continue.
That is my suggested fix in a nutshell and in closing I will use a quote from one of the most famous problem solvers EVER!!!
"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?"
ok, Thanks Holman, I'll try it and see how it works
Ash,
I just noticed that "derrickljy" slipped a post in prior to mine (sneaky 😉) IMHO that is a waste of time and it does take a long time to go thru all those motions. derrickljy - I am just voicing an opinion no intent to flame you.
If you try my solution you will know if you are fixed in 15-30 minutes. I personally like instant gratification.
One request Mr/Mrs Ash, PLEASE post back after you implement my suggestions. If it fixes yours, which by the way is the extreme case of the battery consumption problem, it will be proof positive that the problem can re eliminated via this/these methods.
Thanks and I will keep my fingers crossed for you until I hear back.
Ash,
Help me out here... The suspense is driving me crazy. Remember me, the guy that is heavy into instant gratification.
Did it work for you?
To my knowledge, no other apps are running. I haven't installed more than 2 (DataMan and HeyTell) and my wife has the same ones anyhow. Is there someway to calculate standby time other than just charging the phone, leaving it on and not using it a whole day?
I followed the advice of several folks here, and restored my iPhone in iTunes, and then let the fully-charged battery run down until the phone shut off. After recharging, I've found that the battery life is now much more reasonable.
Danny,
Did you "Restore as new" or "Restore from a backup"?
I restored 'as new.'
Dany,
You are a man of few words... do you carry a big stick.
I am certainly glad to here it worked for you. There is nothing worse than having the most beautiful smart phone on the planet and only able to use it for 4 hours between recharge cycles.
So I am assuming now when it is just sitting in standby mode your battery nol onger clocks down like the second hand on a stop watch and it probably runs much cooler.
If it sounds like I am trying to drag a little more detail out of you it is only because I am. 😉
Others that read your post might not be enticed to give your fix a try after reading "I've found that the battery life is now much more reasonable" while I realize you are saying good things about the fix... your proclamation may not inspire people jump up grab their iPhone and head to their computer to give it a try. LOL
Ughhh.... Two days later and battery is back to bad. 1 hour, literally no usage, down to 88%. I thought I had noticed issues again yesterday, but couldn't truly tell. Now I am sure my issues are back.
