Lost videos after library rebuild..

Hello,

After icloud came out I was one of the fortunate iphoto user to have the glitch that would automatically crash iphoto when a camera was connected. The resolution to that issue was to rebuild the iphoto library. I have done so but somehow it appears that I may have lost all of my videos from my library.. I can see the thumbnail of the vids but cannot play them once opened. I get a triangle witih a "!" in the middle. When i open spotlight and search for ".avi" or "mov" files I cant find anything. However when i go into iphoto and "show the package contents" i can find the vids under my masters folder. So i'm wondering if there is an easy way to reimport everything or am i actually going to have to pull out each video one by one to import them as my trusty applecare advisor told me for $50 bucks. What a waste! I was wondering if there was a simpler way to rebuild or reimport a brand new library by moving each folder "modified, originals, and masters" onto my desktop and importing them by creating a new libarary altogether. Sure, i'll have a lot of dupes but at least I wont lose anything right? I dont do a lot of modifying to my photos so I'm probably going to have a few dupes from cropped photos that I can just trash anyway? Thoughts???

Well you don't want to re-import them. That library has already lost them, so you know it's unstable.

The iPhoto Library is different now. You would lose all your edited versions. You only import from the Masters.

Worth a try:

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I appreciate the advice. I did lose a lot of data as far as modified photos and albums but I'd rather live with that than lose precious vids of my childrens first steps!

Now that I've created a new library located on my desktop what do I do next to replace the old one? I named it (Iphoto master library rebuilt) Do I just drag it into my pictures folder located in my user file? I'm afraid to move it but now all of my ipads and iphones are still linked to the old library? I open iphoto and choose the new library but how does itunes know which one to sync to? Also, is it safe to just keep the iphoto library on my desktop? It doesnt show up as a 'package' file just a regualar iphoto icon. not sure what to do?
