Nov 12, 2011 6:15 AM in response to callgaryby Verso67,I believe this is the right way to avoid the bug.
I did the 5.0.1 update on my 4 and the battery problem came with it.
Now I have restored my phone, without the cloud, as new device.
2 hours passed, and i'm still at 100%.
Hope it stays like this. the cloud may be the problem and sync.

Nov 12, 2011 6:25 AM in response to TejanoGrisby francesco72,I just purchased a brand new iPhone 4S and I had the same problem of low battery life, evev after the iOS 5.0.1 update.
In the morning after a nigth charge, the battery was at 98% after power supply disconnecting. in 20 min it lost 12 %. Reading a post I follow the step suggested by a user:
1) backup the device.
2) reset the devise as new device
3) restore the backup
after 1 hour the battery is still 100% !
I hope that this is the solution

Nov 12, 2011 8:40 AM in response to TejanoGrisby LowIFR,I also was one of those NOT having major battery problems prior to the 5.0.1 update. It is now worse.... last night, went to sleep with 100% charge, 7 hours later, with no use overnight, down to 66%. I also see it draining significantly more quickly than prior to the upgrade. Using new 4S.
And yes, I use location services, wifi, etc, which is why we *have* an iPhone. Not willing yet to deal with full restore... hopefully Apple will have a fix soon.

Nov 12, 2011 9:18 AM in response to TejanoGrisby bbeadel,I also was not having any problems before the update. Now I lose about 4% every 15 minutes in standby since the update. This morning I took a 15 minute shower and when I go out my phone had dropped 10%. I will probably restore to before the update.

Nov 12, 2011 10:35 AM in response to tomasfrombrnoby bbeadel,Doesn't look like it's possible...I'm going to see if the apple store will do it for me.

Nov 12, 2011 1:55 PM in response to bozhedby apple4me2,Joining the the club with a worse upgrade with 5.0.1 experience, what a slap in the face from Apple. Very dissapointed.
Where's 5.0.2? Hopefully in a few/several weeks.

Nov 12, 2011 1:57 PM in response to TejanoGrisby Verso67,So,
i did yesterday the update OTA. Since then the battery drained really fast.
So this morning i did a restore, without backup, just as new phone.
Re-installed al my apps and did not modify the options, just NO Cloud !!
Now 9 hours later, with the phone on stand by, just droped 2%
Fantastic :-)

Nov 12, 2011 2:19 PM in response to TejanoGrisby derrickfromsurry hills, ive posted here before.. 4S went to ok to worse after update despite switching virtually everything off.
down 10% after 20 mins from full charge.. pretty impressively crap really.
Gonna return the phone and get myself a samsung galaxy 2 or maybe the motorola Razr. been dealing with battery issue since the launch, second phone returned now...
it was doing ok prior to update, quite happy with it but im fed up with apple launching products that have not been properly tested, patches that have not been developed adequately.
piece of junk crap.

Nov 12, 2011 2:43 PM in response to LowIFRby michele253,my phone battery has gotten completely worse since the update, and i hadn't had a single problem before updatting. i charged my phone last night and took it out at 10am this morning. by 4pm, making 0 calls or texts, literally just having the phone on, my battery was down to 85%. before the update my phone would last in the 90% range for 2 DAYS making a ton of calls and text messages and now since the update my phone battery is so bad, i'm sorry i updated.
since 4 i've made two 5 minute phone calls, and i'm down to 78%. by tomorrow i'm going to have to charge the phone again the way it's draining. apple better be trying to fix this, because a phone that was having no problems is now draining with 0 usage.

Nov 12, 2011 5:03 PM in response to TejanoGrisby CubnChrstn,My 4s drops an average of 10% battery life per hour. With my iphone 4 prior to ios 5, would last all day (depending on usage) with still 80% battery...
Whats the deal Apple?!?!?!

Nov 12, 2011 7:04 PM in response to TejanoGrisby ElmerFudd,Iphone 3GS here, decent battery life before, lost a bit going to 5.0, updated last night, left my phone in the car for part of the day with fully charged battery, no apps running (I checked first thing in the morning) and a dead battery by afternoon, and I mean shut off dead. Freaked me out.

Nov 13, 2011 2:38 AM in response to TejanoGrisby Verso67,So,
update since my last post, usage for 50 min, and 22u40 stand by and only dropped 6%
So the 5.0.1. is not bad, only The UPDATE process isn't working like it should.
