Should I update to ios 5.0.1?
Lots of people seem to have problems, but has anybody been successful?

I've just updated my iPhone 4 without any problems.
Do it over the air on your iPhone rather than the old method.
What's "lots of people"?
I updated perfectly fine. My battery life was good in my 4S before, and I haven'teven noticed a difference.
By lots of people I meant that I was seeing a lot of people having trouble on the forum.
I figured that was a small portion of actual iPhone users so I wanted to make sure the update is actually good.
I have been following these forums for a long time now. I have to say that the number of reportecd problems for 5.0.1 so far has been lower then usual.
By the way I had no problems what so ever with the upgrade of my iPhone.

Thanks for all your responses. I just found out I couldn't mark all your answers as helpful. 😉
Since I updated mine, its getting worst. 5% drop in just 5 minutes and still keep dropping when using it.. not so happy with 5.01
Well, my iPhone 4 updated in about 2 minutes. Now on to my wife's 4S. That's the one that worries me.
So far switching to ios 5.0.1 means no more music for me on my iPhone 4. The iPod icon is gone and all my playlists and songs (all dutifully purchased from Apple). Songs are all in iTunes on my computer and even listed if I plug in the iPhone to sync but if you unplug the phone you can't access them.
I am NEVER upgrading OS again. I'll just wait to get the next phone. Lesson has been learned.
Good for you!
My iPhone 4 still on 50% battery life early afternoon. Never made any major calls. But after 4 hours and without any warning, it just turned off and showed totally drain. It never give any warning at all (20% battery warning, 10%, etc..). I thought they fixed the correct bugs on the software. But it seems that the bugs became a SUPER BUG. It's getting worse. I never had any problem before when it was still on its old 4.XX version. But when the 5.0 came in, that's where it started to behave like crazy.
I was having no problems before I updated to 5.0. Just updated to 5.0.1 over the air and it installed quickly. No problems with the iPhone before or after either update.
Being able to update wirelessly was pretty awesome too...

I don't know if any one have this problem. I have the red dot (voicemail) appearring.
I don't have a voicemail service.
I restarted phone 3-4times, keep receiving voicemail alert. Call voicemail, no message.
Took out sim card red dot disappear, put back sim card the same happen again.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Mines been draining too - not so much in standby but with light use my usage stats have gone down significantly since the update ! Is there anyway of downgrading back to 5?
Thanks
5.0.1 is a total DISASTER!!!! I cannot make calls, signal is missing, cannot send sms, cannot do anything with the phone! It is a very expensive ipod now. APPLE, YOU DID A SUCKING JOB!!!!
guys, i advise against upgrading to 5.0.1 on suspicion that it causes network issues.
since the update my iPhone 4 lost service (SingTel). At the beginning connection was restored for brief periods of time but now it is permanently on NO SERVICE. I changed the SIM card without any effect. I placed my SIM into another iPhone 4 and it worked fine. When i switch carrier to MANUAL, i can see all 3 carriers (StarHub, M1, SingTel) but choosing one displays a message that i cannot connect. I reset network settings. I restored the phone via iTunes from backup and nothing has made a difference.
I suggest that 5.0.1 is the root of the problem because there is no cause for the antenna to be broken at all.
Apple needs to review this urgently because it affects the very core function of the phone.
I will try to un-officially roll back this update.
