iOS 5.0.1 SIM card not detected

Hello everyone,

I just updated my 3GS from iOS 5.0.0 to 5.0.1

Since the update, Itunes says that no SIM card is detected, and the iPhone says that it cannot be activated. It also obviously does not detect any network.

I tried restarting the phone several times, removing the SIM card several times, but it did not change anything, the SIM is still not detected.

It was working perfectly fine with iOS 5.0.0

When you upgraded your 3GS which was hacked to unlock, it was re-locked to the original carrier it was locked to. There is nothing that can be discussed in this forum that will unlock it again - you're on your own with that.

FYI, all iPhones nave a "baseband" which is the firmware that controls the radio in the phone. The baseband versions changes when updating the iOS but gets altered in some hacking/jailbreaking/unlocking procedures that can screw things up in the long run.

to the last posters: all different issues:

applizer: this has nothing to do with the phone been locked, if your phone was jailbroken once you have to try a reset to factory settings and hope that may solve the problem; if it has never been tampered with: this issue was known and the iOS 5.0.1 update should have it solved, but there are still a few clients who have this problem, Apple is working on it.

steffa921: I do not completely understand what you are trying to do, "activate" what? If you can specify your problem better, you have more chance to have someone with a solution here; was the phone jailbroken, was your computer once used to jailbreak a phone, was the phone locked once, etc?

amine: if you can'y get past the "activation screen" ? what?

Another person having this problem here..... Is there anything that can be done?

I live in a southamerican country and bought the iphone 3GS to the oficial service provider who also is the second largest mobile services provider in my country and several others down here, so its as oficial as it can get. The phone had never been jailbroken nor any other funny business done on it, ever. Upon upgrading the phone to IOS 5.0.1 and started the activation process going through all the stepsno problem, on the final step, when it has to actually activate after setting dverything, it says no sim card is detected. I tried with another sim card, still didn't detected it. Tried conecting it to iTunes only to find the same message over and over.

I've done everything I can think of, including the solutions posted in this thread earlier, and nothing at all seems to work, at all. I'm going to take to the service provider amd techician and see what they tell me, but I'd rather either fix it myself or have a clue about whats going on, because I'm completly lost.

Thank in advance for the help!

After banging my head against walls for weeks after the 5.0.1 update on my 3gs and getting nowhere with the sim card not activate problem and after updating baseband downgrading firmware ect i put my vodaphone simcard in my wifes unlocked 3gs it took it for ages to recognise it but eventually did,as soon as i put it back in my phone it then registered straight away,i had already tried it in an unlocked nokia and it worked but not until i had put it in another unlocked iphone would it work, may of just been a fluke but its worked for me
