Tried to Update iPhone 4s with iOS 5.01 and it Deactivated my phone

I tried to update my iPhone 4s with iOS 5.01 and it got hung up in iTunes and said I need to restore the phone to factory settings. Which I did. Then I restored it via iCloud. Then the phone came up as DEACTIVATED! (went online...payment is up-to-date, so I know its not that). Verizon doesn't open until the moring and I'm stuck without cellphone service. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have a similar problem here:

I did the update over the air, worked without a problem.

But since then, my phone refuses to connect to GSM/UMTS, everything else works.

Tried restarting the phone, no result.

I'm on a trip to Norway and thus out if my normal provider's reach (German T-mobile).

I hope Apple sees this, seems to be a rare problem with the update!

I updated via USB and after 5+ hours am still frozen in process. I don't want to detach my phone from the computer, because I'm afraid of what is going to happen. I have AT&T. Anybody that has detached with success, please post something so I can figure out what to do. The friggin' apple support on-line requires the **** serial number of the phone, which I can't access, because the phone is frozen.

Kali4nia85. Verizon only offers tech support from 6am to 11pm so I was out of luck at 12am :-(

UPDATE: Called Verizon this morning. On their end I was not showing "deactivated" so they suggested that I restore my phone to factory setting (which I had already done). I went throught the whole process again and then when prompted on my iPhone 4S restored it from iCloud. I was still on the phone with Verizon and as soon as I did the restore...magic...it showed up in their system as active.

So my advise...if your iPhone is not working, go throught the restore process (again) and see if it helps. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Hope this helps!

Called T-Mobile, followed their instructions, and the problem was solved in less than 60s:

Hold both the top and the central button until a white apple appears (30 seconds!), that performs a more thorough restart than the usual sequence if holding both buttons briefly and using the red slider.

No data or apps are lost, but my phone instantly reconnected.

All is fine now, but I wish Apple had terminated the update procedure with this kind of restart to avoid the problem from the start ...

Same problem with me. Upgraded my iphone 4s wirelessly to ios 5.01 from ios5.0. Since then, not able to connect 3G. Connects fine to WI-FI.

Called up Vodafone customer service, they were not able to help. Tried all options hard restart (hold power and home button for 30 secs), reset network settings. No use. Vodafone advised me to sync the phone with itunes and reset to factory defaults. I am going to try this evening.
